I'm not sure if anyone else knows whats going on in MI right now. But the state will shut down sunday at midnight if they don't agree on a budget. I'm posting a list so if you live in MI you know what to expect.
35,000 will be laid off monday morning.
What you couldn't do in a shutdown

Drawbridges, lottery tickets, state parks, road construction.
They're all victims if the state can't avoid a partial shutdown of state government by agreeing to a budget by midnight Sunday. Gov. Jennifer Granholm's administration released a more complete list of affected services Friday.

It includes the practical (highway rest stops), the educational (the state's Historic Museum and Library) and the crappy (the pickup of horse manure on carless Mackinac Island).
Things you won't be able to do in a shutdown:
Renew your driver's license or tabs at a Secretary of State branch office.
Drive across five drawbridges -- they'll be left in the up position.
Dodge horse puckies on Mackinac Island. Garbage and manure pick-up will stop.
Find relief at a highway rest stop. They'll all close.
Know that the gallon of gas you pumped is really a gallon. Inspectors won't be checking pumps.
Know that inspectors are making sure recalled food is removed from grocery stores.
Bet at a horse race track.
Get a discrimination complaint investigated.
Get a wetlands, air quality surface water discharge or dredging permit.
Enjoy the Michigan Historical Museum.
Do some research at the Library of Michigan.
Check out the cannons at Ft. Mackinac on Mackinac Island.
Open a new case to get assistance for unemployment, food stamps or foster care.
Buy a lottery ticket or claim winnings on an old ticket.
Go to a state park.
Get your dead deer checked at a state check station.
File a complaint at a Michigan State Police post.
Say good-bye to barrels on the state's highways. Road projects stop, the barrels stay.
Feel confident that your city services won't be affected.
Things you won't have to worry about:
Prisons -- felons stay put.
Getting Medicaid, food stamps, unemployment or welfare checks for existing cases.
Investigations of child abuse or neglect and foster care complaints.
Testing drinking water supplies.
Payments for day care centers, adoptions or foster care homes.
Payment of child support from noncustodial parents.
The two veterans homes. They'll remain open.

Other than the drawbridges and the highways, I don't really see much of a downside.

It will save the taxpayers money if it comes to pass.
But really this will never happen. Money will be found at the last minute.
It always is.
They don't want us to see how well we can do without them for a few days.
Might lead to less government.
