Those Rotten Recaros

After tranny, suspension, EFI fixes, Im still stuck with working on my non -motor head son's 88 LSC. Finally took it back from him because he was calling from school every week with a new failure. Dad the brake lights are on, Dad the ac went out, Dad the suspensions falling, idling bad, wont start right, transmissions slipping. So I got him another car and now I have it back.
Funny, first thing I did was replace the ignition switch finally. Strangely enough that fixed the ac, the brakes, the suspension, and the starting and rough idle amazing. 10 bucks new from Advance auto and was IN STOCK.

So I decided since it is running so well now Im GOnna put it right.

But what a messed interior now. SO now Im cleaning it up. Front Recaros are all torn up. Know Anybody make a kit for reupholstering them?

OR will the regular bucket seats from a 92 Cougar or Tbird bolt onto the LSC track frames. I can live without the lumbar and hardness adjustments.

Send a PM to Fratmandu or 02LSE96LSC.... as I know they have had experience with the Fox Body T-Birds which should be the same as the Cougars and the Mark VII's.

Also OldSchool1 should know as he seems to be a god with the Mark VII's.

My personal Opinion is that the will fit. I have an 88 T-bird and my nephew had an 88 LSC Mark VII the seat in the Mark VII were better but seemed to be of the same design. So I'm guessing that they will fit.

chickenviii put Mark VIII seats into Midwestbird's SC Thunderbird. So again I would guess that Ford would have the same set up in the 3 cars from the previois model.

Should fit (year to year), only issue is will the seat rub the doorpanel.

lol...I love this posting. Non-motorhead sons can be as taxing as a non-computerhead son. These cars are certainly NOT for anyone who isn't mechanically/electronically interested or inclined and only wants a daily driver without possible problems/maintenence. Get him a Honda!

... anyway...

As the Mark VII is a Fox body, pretty much any seats from a Fox body car will bolt right in. Even a bench, if you want to delete your console.

But as a rule that's a lot of 79-93's. And that means some awesome seat options!
The Cougar and T-Bird strayed from the fox body earlier than the Mustang and Mark VII.

My latest Mark VII was a '91. The LSC seats, this year, were poorly designed compared to the ones in your car. Here's what I did...

The seat in the 87-88 T-Bird Turbo coupes were some of the most comfortable Ford sport seats...and that's what I got.
They even came with power lumbar and it plugged right up. But the thigh bolsters are manual-dial, like the mustangs (they work great). Further, they have that awesome pull-out extension in the front of the seat that the Marks didn't have.
The seats I got are heavy velour fabric that will last the life of the car.
They really look great in the Mark VII and are very comfortable.

1 pic is the Mark VII leather vs the T-Bird seat and 2nd pic is Both T-Bird seats installed. I really like them in the Mark VII.
The Mustang seats, 85-93 were similar in base construction...but lacked the heavier cloth, more adjustable/comfortable headrests...and did not have the power lumbar option ('93 Cobra was only one to offer that).

Nice! My 85 T-Bird Fila had the same style seats, they were the best - power lumbar, those pull out extensions... Mine were leather on the outside and cloth in the center, best of both worlds... man I miss those seats...

Thanks for all the feedback. THose seats do look good in there. I picked up a pair of good 94 cougar seats Friday for 50 bucks. Not recaros but right color,good condition, vinyl with cloth inserts. THe seat wont fit onto the LSC track because the back support is integrated with the bottom. But the track mounting pattern is the same (more or less) Just gotta figure out the wiring if I want to use the door switches. May just use them as is.

The seats were done by Lear-Siegler, not Recaro.

Never knew much about the makers of the seats. In fact this was the fiorst I'd heard about the Fox body reference. Seats certainly resemble recaros. But all the same to me. But emphasis is on rotten either way. FAlling apart and uncomfortable compared to many others. THis is my 3rd LSC and I think the seats are way short of the car. And who uses all that crap? But thanks for the ed.

Anyway the seats out of the cougar dont align. track pattern is close but off set to one side so I will be making adaptor brackets and/or blocks to mount them. They look OK in there tho. And cushy too.

I think I put a set of cloth cougar seats in another Mark VII I had. They were very comfy! But they bolted right to the tracks.
The trick is to get seats that will bolt to your tracks...not tracks that will bolt to your floor.

Additionally there are adapter kits that can fit many seats to your track.

Heres how they came out. Finally made adaptor brakets to move the mountings over an inch and a half. 50 bucks for the seats, 3 hours in the machine shop to make the brackets. Not perfect but OK for now.

You might want to take a look at the 1988 to 1989 Lincoln Mark VII LSC seats. Lift UP and FORWARD <g>
