It has been a few years since the trans fluid has been changed and the car is at about 106k now. The fluid still appears red and doesn't have a burnt smell or whatnot to it. But i'm not sure how many miles it has been should be under 30k. The fluid is amsoil. Also the plugs are double platinum motorcraft. The sticker says .52-.56 for the i believe single platinum plugs. What is generally recommneded now that the vehicle is a bit older and has the double platinums the same, less or more gap? Also the wires are prestosil class E which were misrepresented as ford oem. Though the price was pretty cheap around 30-50 bucks if i remenber correctly. So I wasn't too angry. However I do remenber my mpg when I put in the plugs and wires after popping the negative went up to about 16 or so city. However very shortly thereafter the mpg dropped back to 13-14 city. Its not a result of resetting the computer, could it be the wires or just the car getting old? At 45k when we bought it mpg was about 16 city. O2's have been replaced, pcv, vac lines, except the emmission tee which i have to order. Oil is mobil 1 5w30 syn, trans is amsoil syn, ps fluid is mobil syn atf and tires are 37-35 front rear michelin symmetry 44 psi max cold all around. Any ideas?

Age of the car wont affect your mileage, Mine 97 Conti has 160k miles on it and I'm getting about 18.5 City. If your fluid looks good I don't think you'll need to get a flush.

How are your tie rod ends - inner and outer?? Ball joints? Brakes dragging? Are you carrying a trunk load of junk? Driving habits changed? Did your gas station go to 10% ethanol? Using AC lots global warming you know?
Brad.

Nothing in the trunk, I have tried using different stations for a few fillups in a row no real change. I currently use bp 93. I have tried sunoco 93, mobil 91or 92 whatever their supreme is here. I believe sunoco has 10% signs on their pumps but none of the others list it around me. Car was inspected 3 months ago they said everything was good when asked to check the front suspension for just such problems. Actually depending on the aerodynamics and speed driving with windows down can actually reduce mpg worse than a/c. A/c is now up to full charge and was used the same when mpg was better.
