Yep, driving home from work, over a bumpy intersection it broke.
Tank was almost empty so that helped me out.
It was the right side one, and I found out there was another one holding it on so I cautiously drove home anyways with the thing hanging down (hey, it was well after any/all repair shops had closed).
Is this a part I can repair on my own, has anybody done this? I'm worried about the body area being rotten where the straps bolt in, although the strap itself broke in the middle section - rotted clean through.

I know Advance can overnite straps, so I would get down there, as it will require a deposit. I did not check the web site. You may want to call first. I used to work there is how I know,

Thanks for the offers guys, it's not the price that concerns me, how much can it be right?
I'm more concerned with whether I can do this job myself or not, I don't really want to pay $80/hour to get a new one put on....

Pretty simple- Just wear goggles!
I have not my Mark, but have dropped tanks in the past, not a big deal, the more gas the harder it is - just remember an empty tank, although light in weight it is more dangerous than a full one due to flammable vapors.

Just picked up a set of straps for $31 at my local parts store - get under the car to unbolt the remains of the last one and knew right away that something was wrong -
They sent me the wrong straps . They only have a listing for a metal tank in a 94 Mark 8 - I thought they were ALL plastic? Mine is.
Yep, it's easy to do the work, but you have to have the right parts!

Most important thing is to have a little gas in the tank as possible. Makes it a bit easier.
It's an easy job.. even at 15 degrees in the dark and on jack stands. With support.

MeSpock - I may take you up on your generous offer, and I'll add $20 for your trouble, it's worth at least that.
I have sourced some flat bar 1"x1/16" in galvanized, and may rig that up, but I don't like that because I'll never get it 'perfect' and tight enough without jambing stuff in between the tank and strap.
NONE of the car parts stores in my area can get me a strap, not even Ford - it's 'obselete'. Supposedly 97/98 won't work, are they really a different tank? They can't get them either though anyways.
