Unbelievable. Now France wants in in Iraq!

If you ever wanted proof that the surge is working and we are winning in Iraq, here it is.

France wants in. It comes as no surprise to me that now that the world is admitting that the U.S. is winning (we have all along), countries like France want to get involved.

Instead of repudiating the Bush Doctrine, the Frenchies tossed out old Jacques Chirac and voted in someone friendly to the U.S.

Now they want their 'fair' share of the oil deals. So typical you could have written this book 5 years ago.

International Herald Tribune

By Katrin Bennhold

Tuesday, August 21, 2007
PARIS: After years of shunning involvement in a war it said was wrong, France now believes it may hold the key to peace in Iraq, proposing itself as an "honest broker" between the Sunni, Shiite and Kurdish factions.

The shift was one of the most concrete consequences yet of the thaw in French-American relations following the election in May of President Nicolas Sarkozy, whose administration no longer feels bound by the adamant refusal to take a role in Iraq that characterized the reign of his predecessor, Jacques Chirac.

During a three-day visit to Baghdad that ended Tuesday, the French foreign minister, Bernard Kouchner, said that the time had come for France, and Europe, to play a greater role in Iraq.

"I believe this is the moment. Everyone knows the Americans will not be able to get this country out of difficulty alone," Kouchner told the French radio station.

Yes, history will rewrite George W. Bush as one of the greatest president's ever.

No surprise, Sarkozy promised closer cooperation with the U.S.

They're offering to get the diplomacy going, something the Bush Administration has all but ignored. So, yes, this is good news.

Tommy, step away from the bong or we'll have to start calling you 'puff-daddy'.

Your comment is comical. Thanks for the laugh.

Tommy, you sound like someone whose BDS has sent him off the deep end. Diplomacy with your enemies should only happen AFTER military victory. Otherwise, it sends a message of weakness to your enemies.

1. Who are the French offering to negotiate with?
2. What else is new - the French wait until after someone else wins the war for them before they step in and act like they've been involved all along. What's the last war the French won, anyway? Oh, yeah, the one where they fought themselves.

A little history lesson:

During the run-up to the Iraqi invasion in 2003, the French were asked for their help militarily, and they refused. Not surprising, as they were allies of Saddam Hussein, and had benefited from the oil for food corruption scandal.

As soon as Baghdad fell, they started making noise about helping in the reconstruction. As the insurgencies sprung up, they quickly quieted down other than bashing America for being stuck in this "quagmire." Now that things have calmed down, they are making noise about cashing in again. Those who do not learn from history are doomed to repeat it. The only country who deserves to be in on the final process would be the Brits.
