Hours in Labor to replace Stabilizer?

Went to the stealership and was quoted 8 hours to replace stabilizer bar!!!! Bull$h!T!~!!!!

All-data is quoting 2.3 hours of labor which is what my warranty will cover plus 150 for the bar.

Anybody who can clear this up?
How much did you pay for the dealership to change out the stabilizer bar?

I paid $600 for 2 new motor mounts (about $150), stabilizator bar (about $150) the rest labor.

I am really good with my dealer though.

IIRC the sway bar is mounted to the TOP of the engine cradle. BuT, that shouldn't take more than 2 hours or so to change if you ask me. Especially for a dealer. 8 hours labor seems a little more than over the top to me, id get a second opinion

Well me and my wife changed hers and it is one major Pain in the A** 8 hours seems about right if not low. It dont unbolt and slip out by no means. To put it mildly have a big hammer handy to drive it out. Oh yea and drive the new bar in, i know my way around a car, have done total restorations many times and it was one of the worst jobs of that type i have ever got into. It damn sure isnt a less than a hour mustang sway bar change. The good thing it is done and hope like hell it never needs it again. Anybody that has done a mark viii blend door motor replacement, it is a walk in the park compared to the front sway bar. hope all goes well

I just had my front sway bar replaced.. paid $101 for the bar and $170+ tax for 2 hrs labor.. they guy said it took about 4 hrs but he quoted me for 2 hrs.

I had everything covered but it only took about half a day. I took it in the morning and had it back by 2:00 or 3:00. It shouldnt take a dealership that long at all to do this.

Was this at the dealer or at some random mechanic?

Took me 5 hours total on a 03+ bar. That involved grinding off the old bushings which are molded to the bar with a grinder and running to Home Depot to get the grinder. Took a total of 5 hours including my run to the store. Why not just replace the bushings yourself like I did on mine. These poly bushings are a TON better and only cost me $20 to do the job.

My 2000 LS front end started squeaking when I turn the wheel. The fluids are at the right level and the tires have the right amount of pressure.

Did yours do the same before you replaced the bushings? Or do you think it's the stablizer?

Sway bar itself is not the problem, the bushings are. If you can change the bushings than even better, save yourself some money.

That has nothing to do with the sway bar.

Mike, whats the reason you think the bar needs replacing?

Not so much the sway bar but the bushings. For people like us who are not mechanically inclined to work on cars we have to go and pay people who are. I know the squeaking is caused by the bushing but I can't change them. Now Ford doesn't sell the bushings alone, the come brand new on a brand new sway bar. I wish I knew 7 months ago you could just change the bushings like 02V8Sport did . I changed almost everthing on my front end to get rid of the squeaks (shocks, links, control arms were coming next). I feel it's like this, You own a Lincoln so sometimes you gotta pay alittle more, but you shouldn't pay through your nose.
