RTV Sealant

The tech article for angel eye kits (and clearing turn signals) calls for a bead of black high temp RTV sealant after the job is completed. Will the high temp RTV sealant prevent me from taking apart the headlight later? Or what would be the process if i wanted to bake the headlights again to take them apart?

I've always used high temp black RTV for gaskets and stuff on my '87 and never had a problem getting anything apart again. It's nothing like the stuff they use in the headlights from the factory.

Thanks! I just cleared my turn signals (waiting on silverstar bulbs to arrive.). I'm going to install angel eye kit in the near future, and wanted to make sure the sealant wouldn't cause problems the next time the lights went into the oven...

that RTV sealant wont need to be baked, it just takes some prying.

right... i was just wondering if it was safe to put into the oven. because i'll still have to bake the whole thing (sealant included) to soften the grey factory sealant.

RTV is a sealant, not a glue. It will peel or scrape off.

The sealant is high temp, so the oven wont effect it. You can peal or scrape the sealant off before or after sticking it in the oven, whatever floats your boat

I fully understand that. He needs to put it back in the oven to loosed the factory glue (again). That is quite obvious (why else would you put your headlights in the oven?) and has been stated many times.

But he is asking if it is ok to put it back in the oven with the black RTV sealant that he put on the first time. The answer is yes.
