Last night when leaving the soccer game I noticed my idle was about 2k. I started down the road watching the tach and it was getting higher if I put the car in neutral the motor went right to 3k. At the next stop light I shut the car off then started it again and there was little change in the idle still about 2k. Now while going home and my foot off the gas I was traveling about 55 mph. I slapped the gas peddle a few time and I even reach down and pulled on it nothing changed. The next thing I did was I turned on the cruse control and when I hit the - (go slower) button the car slowed. I don't know if the cruse was just a coincidence or if it has some thing to do with the high idle. I think it's some thing else! So by the time I got home the idle seemed to be normal. This morning on the way to work it seemed to be off a little but not like last night. Any ideas what may be wrong?
Thanks
John

I know when I start my car and its cold the the idle will stay up around 2k for about 30 sec to a minute then it will come back down to normal. I know its probably stupid but I dont put my car in gear until it comes down. I have also noticed that even when the car is warm if I shift it into N the RPMs arent at an idle.

Sounds like the throttle body is could use some cleaning.
Here is a thread with Jim Henderson that has some insight on cleaning it.
