Any big screen High Def TV guys around here?

I recently took the HD plunge and man am I a happy camper. I can't wait for every channel to come out in HD. There is no substitute.

I went the DLP Rear Projection route after hour upon hour of reviewing and am not disappointed.

Discovery and ESPN are awesome and so is Jay Leno's head. Man, that guy has one freaky skull and jawbone setup.

If you got one, share your experience.

Heck, my HD hard drive camcorder is the shiznitz plugged into the TV. Technology has come so far it is unreal.

I'm sure I could record some of Joey's porno flicks that he does and make them cum to life.

I own a 32" Syntax-Olevia that I picked-up after Christmas for $500 at Circuit City. The difference between HD and SD is night and day. My only complaint is that Comcast is a lousy HDTV provider and their SD signal sucks. I'd like to try Direct TV HDTV.

I agree that the SD signals suck. I have Time Warner and it sucks too. I just up'd the ante with Time Warner because they can in and threw a pre-emtive strike deal at me to keep us as a subscriber because AT&T is rolling out their digital TV package. They tossed in Showtime, DVR recorder, HBO, and a zillion channels, 95% of which are worthless, installation, yada,yada,yada.

I wussed out and went 720P because Time Warner said they were 2 years out providing any 1080P programming so what's the point. I am not a Blu-Ray guy anyway. So I figure this one (Toshiba 56"er) will go in the den when the 80-100" monsters come down in price. The picture is also better for the most part with the 720;s because unless you have a Sony model, they are playing games to get the 1080 resolution. LCD is being slowly phased out so plasma or DLP is it for now.

My advice is to go as big as you can afford. The detail and extra picture size is worth it. Also go widescreen. Everybody is programming widescreen stuff. I even bought the widescreen camcorder so it would fit the screen perfectly.

I dove into the HD thing back in February. It's fantastic. I have DirecTV and it's awesome. I've used them for 8 years now. You couldn't pay me to go back to cable. I've had a few friends come over and comment on how much better the HD channels look on satellite. I love HD Net, lot's of good stuff on there. DirecTV will soon be the leader on HD channels. I got a Samsung 40" LCD flat screen (LN-S4095D) for a great deal. I saved $600 by getting it online. It's a 1080p model. The highest I can get on satellite and off-air antenna is 1080i. I also got one of those "upconvert" DVD players and it looks really good. It'll take standard DVDs all the way up to 1080i. MonsterMark, I agree with you, Leno looks great in HD...looks more real than life! Video games look good too.

I did ths about a year ago.... I have the JVC HD-61Z886 61-inch HD-ILA Rear Projection TV.

And yes - I especially like how Late Night and the Tonight show look - the colors are awsome. (HD) Baseball games look great too - I love it.

I have an HD projector and I love it. My screen size now is about 132''. The picture quality is still great, especially with the XBox 360. Best money I have spent for anything in my house.

I have a 50" Toshiba DLP 720p. I went the 720 route for a few reasons. They're a lot cheaper, I don't sit very close to the TV (about 10 feet) and I don't have any 1080p sources. HD cable looks amazing. The only gripe I have with the TV is the fast motion graininess and blur you get, most noticeable on sports. But I was at Best Buy and Circuit City a few days ago w/ a buddy of mine (he's getting a 42" plasma) and I noticed motion problems with most of the TV's there. My HD cable box has DVR too, and man do I love it. I don't know how I lived without the DVR. I use it all the time.

Joey: How do you like the HD-ILA? I was looking at a lower end model briefly but I read bad reviews about bulb problems and JVC's lack of customer service, so I steered clear. I was also looking at an SXRD Sony (same display technology, LCoS) but it was a little more than I wanted to spend.

I noticed that fast motion graininess too. I thought it was just LCDs; must be both.

I have a friend that swears by the SXRD, I haven't seen it yet though.

DVR is great, fills up quick with HD programming.

I have a 42 Samsung DLP and you couldn't give me another one for a penny. My HD channels are not at all what I would even consider par with my Wal-Mart special 27 incher. I have had the stupid thing replaced once and repaired three times already and the techs are getting tired of doing stuff to my TV. Telling me the "that is just the nature of the beast" I bought it at Best Buy at Christmas and it has been a thorn in my side ever since. I can see movement/distortion in my picture from up to seven feet away. The one at the store sure didn't do this or I wouldn't have bought it. I have cable, and all new lines from the drop. Dvd's aren't much better at all. To be honest, my television intake has dropped significantly since I got mine. It just makes me mad to sit and watch it. I totally regret my purchase.

It seems LCDs get blurry with motion. My mom has a cheapo Vizio that SUCKS IMO. My DLP gets more of a graininess to it. I notice it only when watching sports and when it's a zoomed in shot w/ quick motion. It seems also that some TV's just suck. Not particular models, just particular TV's. When I was searching for the right set, and reading reviews, it seemed no matter what TV I looked at, someone had something bad to say. So I went with the Toshiba, because it was the size I wanted, and it was cheap, and offered 2 HDMI and 2 component, which was good. I went with the 4 years service plan and got a nice stand for under 2 grand, so I was, and still am, happy with my purchase. Got it from Best Buy.

I havent had to replace the bulb, and its been somewhere around a year and a half.

They sell the bulbs many places, you dont have to go to JVC for a bulb.

Im happy with the JVC

Cool. I think it's just the few people that just get bad sets that make up a majority of all reviews for whatever TV you're trying to research. I noticed that with my Toshiba. The same person left a terrible review on like 4 different sites because they got a dud.

I am just wanting the tv to perform like official Samsung description says for my particular model. Things like "the ultimate HD experience... Razor sharp picture and clarity... A Cinematic experience in your living room..." Yeah right, for a $2000.00 dollar telivision they don't seemed to be too concerned with delivering on those promises. No one else has had any issues or complaints at all? To be honest nobody I know has had any of my problems either. Which makes me all the more upset because it must not be a common problem.

I have a 72" Toshiba 1080p DLP and I couldn't be happier.
The HD signals are fabulous and even the SD is great.
The picture settings allow for the screen to zoom in enough to get rid of those annoying letterbox bars the networks seem determined
to use to make the picture wider.
My Akai 42" plasma and 32" lcd 720p bedroom sets only show signals with the letterboxing but display SD quite well.
The bulb blew on me after 1000 hrs and Toshiba replaced it under the 1 year warranty. It took a week to arrive by fed ex ground but I bought my own replacement and had it overnighted for 250.00.
I didn't get the extended warranty but now I'm covered if and when the current bulb blows. It seems they have a maximum life of 6000 hours but are very easy to replace taking at most 10 minutes.
