University Degrees Online

Has anyone ever considered an online university degree program? What do you think of them? Im wondering if online college degrees are looked down upon by employers?

I've looked into a few bachelor degree online university programs, and I've been considering the university of phoenix online degree program but they are pretty expensive.

Does anyone know of any other online degree programs?

Any thoughts or info are appreciated.

I have looked at them before. The U of Pheonix seems to come up a lot when you look for that type of thing. I'm not sure what I think of them. I don't think employers look down on them like they used to.

However people always tell me not to do it because it's not the same as a 'real' degree.

I would love to hear other peoples input on this. Maybe we can get a 2 for 1 deal

I think it depends on whether it's just some lamo company or a university that is offering a "distance learning" program. I would think that if the degree is from a well-known and respected college, it doesn't matter whether it was on-campus or distance-learning.
Just my 2 cents.

Most colleges have some form of "distance learning" program, so you can get a degree from a lot of well known colleges now without ever setting foot on their campus. I am currently in a very unique program where I am at one college with professors teaching us over a video conference system from a different college. This is a different type of distance learning, but the premiss is still the same. I have also taken an internet course or two. They are also very different. It is not like "real college" but that is not to say that you won't learn as much or more. It's like anything else: you get out of it what you put into it. As long as you can be responsible with your time and don't need a professor that you can physically see, you'll do just fine.

i went to the university of south florida last yr n was amazed at how many online classes they had if i was wantong to do that i would first c if u could take all of ur courses online couse if ur able to do so it would b better to get it at a local "real" college n like stated b4 u might not even have to set foot on campus i also have one of my friends who teaches for kaplan college they r i think basicaly an online type college id check that out to

personally I think that a complete on-line education is crap and if there were two applicants for a job, I guarantee the one that went to a real (no offense) university would get the job.

I think places that offer alternatives to going on campus for every class is great but not your entire education for a degree.

strangely enough, Uni of Phoenix is as expensive as many "real' degrees

I agree with Katshot and I don't think it has anything to do with cost. If university X is a reputable college and they happen to offer distance learning then your degree from there should have equal value. Now if university Y mainstreams in online degree's then I wouldn't think a degree from university of Y would bear much weight in the job place.

Yeah, but places like UIC offer online classes, would you say they got a lesser education? I don't learn very well in a classroom. If I can't *DO* what I'm learning right away, I don't really learn it. Hands on, you know. Lectures bore the bejesus out of me.

ive taken a few online classes n honestly i believe i got a better sense of the class than one that i had 1'000 stuents in it even the "real" classes i took were split to half online most online classes r just meetings n chat rooms n test u take from a book i dont think that an online class is a joke but as for the job place i do think u would b at a disadvantage
