Many of their members, are members here. Personally, im offended you would post this here. Its unethical for starters, and its also demeaning to LVC. Ask your questions here or dont ask your questions here. But dont try to use LVC as a channel like that. Its not fair to us nor to LLSOC.

I completely disagree. I have stayed on LVC and learned alot from here, but the individuals here obviously could not lend any insight on the issue, I was in a jam, and incorrectly thought I could get some help here.

I do not think I did anything wrong, therefore will not apoligize

/my invovlement in this thread

Posted by: Eliot_Ness_Ls

There is many ways you could have gotten info on it. I think the biggest issue is you failed to use the search. I have seen this issue many times useing search and I wasnt looking for it, pluss there is posts of fordcd.com if I am correct on that. They have alot of stuff from what I hear, and the HNIC of this forum "JOEY" has every right to be offended, so do others.

If you didnt do anything wrong than I think apoligizing shouldnt be so tuff.

Let me show you...Guy's I felt I had done nothing to offend you altho I obviously have, I am sorry.

Now copy and paste that with your next post and it will all be over.

He already said he had the service manual cd and couldn't find anything in it about replacing the tie rod!

My 2 cents, not that anyone cares... I don't see anything wrong with saying "hey i'm stuck with xxx can you ask the guys on yyy about it?" But you shouldn't make a whole new thread about it.

Ok Im looking into that, how can you not find something as simple as a tie rod on the disc?

When I had all that replaced it took the dealership not even a full day to get my car back to me.

Just a lllllllittle harsh guys

Posted by: nickandersonLS01

Sounds like a bunch of 15 year olds on a computer gaming forum that I moderate, sadly.

Posted by: jrockcentral1

Can it be a 'Counterstrike' gaming forum?

Posted by: nickandersonLS01

gotfrag.com actually, I don't play much games anymore, but yes it started mainly as a counter-strike news site + forum. I work for the hardware section, mainly posting news articles + product reviews(side job). When I'm at my real job I sit around moderating the forum trolls.

Posted by: SoonerLS

Maybe I'm an exception, but as an LLSOC member, I didn't find the request itself particularly unethical or objectionable (fulfilling it, on the other hand, would be, IMHO). I know on some of the professional e-mail lists to which I subscribe I see messages asking for similar things ("hey, if any of you are members on E-mail List XYZ, could you ask about ABC"); it's not necessarily bad to ask, even if it would be bad to carry out the request.

This thread should serve as a notice to others that asking that question is Not Cool (tm), but personally, I don't think he has any reason to apologize.

Posted by: T_Man

You're not alone Sooner. As a fellow LLSOC'er I thought of it as "no harm, no foul". But then, I guess this situation has never come up before on LvC and I can also understand Joey's objection to soliciting LLSOC members directly.

We are all for the sharing of information and it's each individual member's choice to interpret that as their conscious sees fit. In McBride's original tie rod post, I would have been happy to help him out, if I knew the answer to his questions. But alas I do not have any knowledge of that problem.

So I would like to think that any/all of us would help if we could, without the need to ask a specific group for information. For we all have one thing in common here... we all own a Lincoln LS and we should be proud of that, cuz there aren't that many of us around.

Posted by: Joeychgo

If this makes any sense....

I like to keep LVC thought of as considerate and respectful of other websites. SO if I seem to come down a little harsh, thats why. I dont want anything to happen that would make LLSOC think of LVC in a negative light.

LLSOC charges a membership fee, and I respect that is their choice. I view the request a little similar to asking your friend to take a camcorder into the movie theater with them so you could see the movie later.

Plus, im getting a little grumpy in my old age...

Posted by: 00ls-sport

i see no harm. dave said he would be becoming a member of llsoc, but he had to wait for his paycheck, and his car was disabled NOW. he bought the parts from me, and asked me to ask a tech for info. i didnt charge him our labor rate for an answer. unfortunately, we havent replaced one here, so i couldnt provide him with any useful info.

Posted by: Quik LS

Sharing first-hand informatino - is what we all do - and help the 'larger' community - which as Tony says - isn't very big.

Simply researching another web-site, then reposting the info, isn't fair to the site that has to pay for it in the first place.

Posted by: jrockcentral1

*tucks thread in to bed and says good-night*

Posted by: Eliot_Ness_Ls

The MAN in charge here made it clear that it was offensive to him cause it is his site...I had to pay for my LLSOC account when I had one and I know nobody there wanted to give info from this site why should the other way arround make any deifference.

The guys makeing progress now anyway, why are people complaining because it offended some of us?

Besides, the guy has another thread going about this issue.

Posted by: 00ls-sport

actually, he completed the job, so you are all whinig about nothing now. i think this should be closed or deleted now.

We try not to close or delete threads. We're not lock Nazis.
If the issue is over and done with, fine, don't post.

I hate going on boards and seeing the lock symbol on thread after thread. It tells me the site is full of fighting children and with 4 boys at home, I have enough of that already.

Posted by: KD00LS

Due to the amount of LLSOC members on here, I think they'd be able to help you if they could. I doubt anyones hiding helpful information because you didn't pay a membership fee. It's no problem though, you didn't know.

i'm sorry. i don't understand that. you search google.com, find a web page that answers someone on here's question and you post a reply on here... isn't it kinda the same thing? with LLSOC, you cannot even view the slightest bit of any LS forum on their website without being a member. And with the price of gas and "most" repairs being 1000 dollars plus, I need all the money i can get.

Holy Crap!! Why Won't This Thread Die!

Posted by: 06AtlantaLS

I don't see a problem w/ Boston's request. Half the time if someone asks for help on here people shoot back w/ a smart ass remark and bash them for not finding it in the past threads.

Maybe he needs to know ASAP to get his car back moving again and can't sit in front of the computer to look through that stuff. It was a simple request and if someone was able to accomodate him they should have.

Now go ahead and flame this thread for me offering my opinion.

Posted by: Quik LS

Look at it this way.

If there was some content only available to 'Gold paid LvC members' on this site - and someone went and copied it and pasted it in the main free forum - would that be fair? to the other Gold Members or to LvC?

Especially if LvC had to pay for that content in the first place?

It's cool to ask for help - but I would personally frown on anyone reposting this type of content. There are two web-sites for a reason - they are different and unique. Many people belong to both.

Posted by: ToddG

It's after "Friday" and Boston has "loot" to get a membership on LLSOC. He can post his question there now. If we want to continue to beat him up on questionable judgment, fine. But as a practical matter, its a moot point.

Posted by: Eliot_Ness_Ls

People need to stop complaining about people complaining that they are offended. I paid for the LLSOC at one point and I would think it wasnt fair to have the ability to get that info from someone that can just post it to another free forum from one that others has to pay for. Besides, the people that are a part of LLSOC that are bitching about us beeing offended still didnt help him anyway so what is your points.

There isnt a single point people just feel the need to argue, thats all and that is F'in stupid. There is a political room here for people to argue, use it. I my self have tried and got my ass kicked is that what some are so affraid of?

Posted by: Quik LS

Wouldn't it be cool if he wrote up a tech article on how to do this - with pics?

I agree it would be cool. I too am a member of both forums and agree fully that if you are using the free portion of the LVC forum, you must go along with Joey's wishes as to what will or will not be posted. Simple as that. If you are a Gold member you can debate your preferences with Joey and maybe convince him on your position.

You can view the news and announcements! You used to be able to view several boards free. Like Quik's recent Austin meet thread, that was open; but now it seems to be all locked down? Change in management maybe?

Yes. In addition to funding certain features of the site, the annual fee keeps out the riff-raff (you know who you are!). This results in a different type of membership, which is why this club and LLSOC are different. I enjoy being a member of both sites.

I used to be an LLSOC member but I quit when I heard RBONES was joining...

Way to steal my idea and post it in another thread! Everyone should try to contribute to the tech articles as much as possible, this would result in a lot less threads.

What!!! Are you making a living by posting "ideas" on forums? Have we arrived at the point where we are accusing people of "stealing ideas"?

Posted by: nickandersonLS01

I was being sarcastic, I was hoping you would have caught on, I wasn't accusing anyone. I'll try to be more obvious with my sarcastic remarks(my mom loves them).

In reality 90% of what I say is sarcastic, that's just how I am. But, whether I say it or anyone else says it, LETS SEE A TECH ARTICLE, AND MUCH MORE OF THEM!

It is hard to tell emotions or sarcasm in a forum without using emotcons. Sorry. Getting a little touchy in my old age

Posted by: 1bad93

You guys must have no life to be complaining about something this petty. I find it way more unethucal when someone asks for a carfax report. This thread is just juvinille.

-travis

Posted by: nickandersonLS01

1bad93, you taking time out of your fun-filled life to post that useless comment is "juvinille" (sp: juvenile).

Posted by: 06AtlantaLS

That's a good point though. I'm surprised it took so long for someone to bring up the "free" carfax reports. That to me seems WAY worse than asking for help from a different site.

I don't think I understand this being unethical. If someone pays for access for a certain number of reports and is willing to use that access to get reports for others, how is that cheating Car Fax? When I was looking for a BMW M6 last year I bought reports. When I purchased the car I still had a couple of paid reports left over and provided reports to anyone interested on this and other boards.

Posted by: nickandersonLS01

Time to take this off-topic, GWL, you have an M6?!?! I LOVE THEM, the CEO of the company I work for drives one(company car). He pulled out in front of me one day and I drooled onto my lap when I heard it. I'd have to say BMW is my favorite car manufacturer by far.

Can we just keep this thread off the topic now...

Its alot less anoying than seeing people complain about people complaining.

Yes, M6's rule!!!!!

Yes, I have an 87 M6, not the new M6. You can see it at http://www.cardomain.com/ride/2415445/1
