Was hoping to start this today but its raining like a beeotch.
Does anyone know the torque spec for the valve cover bolts on the 3.9L?
I also need to know if the brake booster and master cylinder need to be removed in order to get the drivers side cover off. Other than that it looks pretty straight forward. Any tips or suggestions?

Might also be helpful if I could find a service manual for this thing. Only thing I could find was a factory manual on ebay for about $100. Is that my only option or is there a chiltons/haynes manual for these things? Anybody know where I could find one?

They should be on ebay (in CD/DVD form) for a lot less than that.
Also you can get the factory manuals free on fordcds.com it just takes a long time to download.
I looked in mine and it says 89 lb-in for valve covers. That's for 2006.

i dont kno ne techincal names but if the brake booster is that metal pipie goin to that round thing no it doesnt have to be removed i slid mine right uunder it i did have to remove the thing attatched to the strut bolts aka thingy
and the other thing mounted above the cover itself (in back of the cover)

That metal pipe goin to that round thing...? Are you talkin about the realy shiny silver part? Thats the fuel pressure regulator. If I dont have to move hte brake booster that will make this a whole lot simpler. Thats the black cylinder that is right over the far lower rear bolt on the coil cover. I just couldnt imagine geting the valve cover to fit over the cams with the brake booster still in the way, is that the thing in the back you're talking about?
I had to remove that vacuum solenoid attached to the strut tower as well just to get the coil cover off, I had planned on moving that out of the way anyway.

For $25/year (IIRC), you can get a subscription to AllDataDIY, which has the procedures and parts lists for these operations. That, and a laptop or printer, and you're good to go.
