No heater info needed!!

My heater went out on my 97 mark. My floorboards aren't wet so i'm ruling out the obvious scenario. A friend of mine who usually knows what he's talking about said there could be a valve (that allows water to the coil) that isn't working. My question(s) are do i have this valve and how hard is it to replace. And...Is my heater vacuum controlled or electronic?

Most people have problems with their blend doors failing. I would say that is probably the problem. Did the problem occur between the summer and now, switching from AC to heat?

Could I possibly be 99% positive it might be the blend door. Seeing as how there is a nearly 100% failure rate, I think it is a pretty good guess.

I know I guy that has made some repair parts in the past. I don't know if he still does or not. I would have to get ahold of him. They are around $50. They'll also cost you a small pool of blood, cut knuckles and a case of beer if you DIY it.

Yeah, if they are known to do it, then it certainly seems to be my problem. I did just notice it as i stopped using the ac and have tried to get some heat going. If it is at all possible to locate some parts to repair it i would be interested, i'd appreciate you finding out for me. thanks alot.

I don't mean to bother anyone, but if it is possible to get some repair parts w/o going to the dealership, I'd really like to. I'm still assuming it's the blend door but I don't know what part exactly i'm going to need. I did the test on the heat unit and it came back with no codes. Any help would be greatly appreciated as it is getting colder.....even in florida

Ya, Mark made a nice piece for me. I don't know if he is still doing it. I wish he would come over to this site. He seems to be a really nice guy and would add alot of value to our discussions.

He basically takes a stock door blend and then adds some brass sleeves to reinforce the pivot point that fails 100% of the time in all the stock units.m ibroke my digital camera but I will see if I can get a pic up later.

For an immediate fix, I think you can drop the glove box and get in there and close the door manually to get you thru the winter. I'll look into it some more this weekend. Right now I have to go and party (Christmas party, girls, beer, girls and more girls) and that takes precedent over anything else. LOL.

I'll try to get one up but the link I provided above pretty much explains everything.

I guess i waited till it was cold out to do mine when I could have done it sooner (dumbxxxx) but I will make a tech article when I do finally tackle it.

We have to sweet talk Mark into making a few more units. The box he sent it in says the AD unit but the unit itself says the AF unit. Why, oh why did I wait till it got cold out. Fighting for stall space is a pita in the winter.

depending on your ability and your tool shed its an easy repair. i fixed mine and it works flawlessly looks scary but youll never ever see it again.
