3 questions about positive battery cable

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

1).. i seem to get a lot of corrosion on the positive side of the battery.. not where the clamp and post meet.. but where the positive cable and clamp meet..it gets bad where the wire twists together.. and i have to clean it every few months... is this normal??.. i get mixed answers from mechanics i know

2).. i have cut back the positive cable a few times to cut off the corroded part and start fresh.. but now im running out of extra to cut off.. how hard is it to replace the whole cable??.. i noticed it twists in with other wires and i dont want to screw anything up

3).. when cleaning the cable i notice that if the positive is disconnected for a little while.. when it is reconnected the air ride "clicks" and drops in the front. is this normal ??.. i do have a basic ray switch installed.... if that helps

any answers would be greatly appreciated.. thanx

3. The air ride thing is normal. Mine does that too when the battery is disconnected/reconnected. I just his the "raise" toggle on the Ray Switch and it stops.

2. I'm trying to remember how long the Negative cable is. IIRC, it's not that long. It goes from the Battery to the Driver's side motor mount bracket. I remember I had to replace mine, and I'm pretty sure thats where it went. Alas, I'm not 100% sure.

1. Never seen corrosion on the positive wire/bracket before. Maybe the wire is a bit loose in the clamp?

Positive cable is a bish. It runs all the way to the starter, and it has other sensor wires wrapped in the loom. Oil pressure sensor (which is on the other side of the block, on the driver's side), being one of them. It runs along the bottom of the motor in the front, and it's retained with a bracket that connects to one of the motor mount bracket bolts on the passenger side for additional support before it reaches the starter. In other words, have fun.

Heck, I would just run a new cable and leave the old one.

get yourself some battery corrosion felt washers for under the clamp and either a can of spray or brush on goo for the cable,i use these anti corrosion techniques and have never seen a speck of corrosion on any car.tractor,or boat ever!

The best thing i have found to stop corrosion on your battery cables is clear coat. YOu can get clear coat in a spray, spray it on and let it dry. I promise you will never get corrosion, because no air can get to the terminal to corode it.
