Battery help!! Can't start car.

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Posted by: BanginLS

I know vivid had asked something like this before, i wanted to know if anyone found anything.

My story:

I crashed my car in december and I finally got my car fixed. I went out one day and I injured my driving knee, so I havent driven my car for over a month. I was so busy with school and work that I forgot to start my car every few days. My battery is now dead and I have a reverse camera in the key hole, making it impossible for me to get to the battery.

When this first happened to me after the accident, I taped into the started and used like a 9volt battery to give the trunk switch enough juice to pop the trunk. Once the trunk was open I was fine. This was an extremely hard procedure and I couldn't do it myself. I had to take it to a mechanic (who was fixing my car regardless) and have him fix it. Since the only problem I have is the battery, I really don't want to take this to a body shop to get fixed.

Can anyone help me get my car started? I just need to jump the car. Any help would be greatly appreciated

Go to a parts store and get one of the 9-volt battery minders that plugs into the cigarette lighter. (It's to keep your radio presets while working on your battery.) If 9-volts at the starter let you pop the trunk, 9 volts at the lighter should too...

I think the car also has jump points under the hood unless I'm mistaken. (That could be my BMW)

i believe there is a jump point under the hood somewhere

quik definately knows

Posted by: BanginLS

I don't see why it wouldnt have jump points under the hood, but I can't seem to find them.. anyone else?

Posted by: n8bachelor

To the best of my knowledge there are not jump points under the hood.

Does your key fob not have a trunk release button on it?..... I suppose it would still require power to open the trunk though.

Your best bet would be to use the cigarette lighter port to provide power to the car to open the trunk. They do make chargers that plug into the cig lighter port and hook to another car's battery. My girl got one for christmas even though she already had jumper cables (it was one of those mail order or free gift incentive kind of things). Basicly garbage... but in your situation it would be a treasure.

best of luck to you

Bangin
I could not find the exact item I described but here are a couple of sites with products that should work for you:

This one is disposable

This one is rechargable but costs about 5x as much

This product is more along the lines of what I have seen but it does not appear to be available.

Good luck

Did you ever think about using the key to open the trunk.

Posted by: qzyl2m

Sorry, you said you had a camera in the key hole.
I believe the rear seats fold down.
Can`t remember if they release from inside car or trunk.
My LS isn`t home right now, otherwise I would check for you.

Mine release from the trunk.... and I dont believe there is a trunk release lever inside the trunk.

Go to Target and buy a Black and Decker charger.

It plugs into the cigarette lighter and gives you enough power to open the trunk from the button in the car.

Then you can jump it. It costs $50.

Posted by: BanginLS

vivid, can u drop a link to it so I can take a look. I'll go buy one today if I must.. thanks guys.. u've been really helpful

Just don't throw it in your trunk when you're done

Good luck!

This is it but it is saying that you can only buy it online now. I purchased it in the store a few months back.

You can remove the rear seat bolsters, that might give you enough room to stick something in to pull the emergency trunk release latch. To actually remove the seatback you need to be able to pull the seat fold down release.

But yeah, just borrow a battery or get it jumped

Posted by: BanginLS

there is a system blocking me from reaching.. sorry

Posted by: DarkMansLSEV8

that sucks dude id hate to be in your shoes. I hope you get thru this one without having to bust your trunk open man. keep us posted and may god be with you.

OK here's the info from the 06 service manual about the battery cables if that helps. I'm no mechanic but it seems to me you could jump it from any point along the cables.

Posted by: BanginLS

i got it to work.. thanks owlman.. ima go crazy now and see if i can make ends out of this.. thanks a lot.. really really really really appreciated..

From the factory, there is an emergency trunk release in the trunk. It should have a glow-in-the-dark T handle, unless someone removed it, and it should be hanging from the inside of the trunk lid. It is true that it's a cable-pull, not a lever, though, so someone may have clipped the cable, or it may have gotten stuck behind the interior trim.

I don't remember if it's Federally-mandated, but it's standard equipment on all cars with trunks, and has been for a decade or so. It's included as a safety feature, to prevent people from being trapped inside the trunk. (That's also why the handle is glow-in-the-dark.)

mine has it.. but my custom system in the trunk does not allow me to reach it..

I know exactly what you speak of. I have seen them before. But I do not believe that they are yet required by law. I am certain I have seen cars (built within the last 10 years) that do not have them. Not to say they didnt at one time but not when I looked.
My LS does not have this, It must have been removed or it is tucked away never to be seen again. I thought perhaps the LS was one of those cars without this safety feature (although I could not imagine why). Glad to see FML got this thing right.

I still cant believe that Lincoln discontinued the LS... it was in my opinion the best car they have made (in my lifetime at least). Followed closely by the Mark viii

Well, that only helps if you're stuck in the trunk. Kind of hard to pull from outside the trunk.
