Octane

Is there anyone actually running 91 octane in their LS? I've only found 91 octane at one gas station....7/11. I only run Chevron Supreme or Premium which is 93 octane. And when I saw 91 octane I still put 93 in. Once again the question is, are you actually running 91 octane in your LS

Posted by: Osaín

I run Chevron myself...main reason because it's top tier gasoline. I have used 91 before...not so good. My car pings the least on Chevron and I get great gas mileage.

i use 93 as well and have only come across 91 once also at a 7-11out in cocoa beach, but even that is a drive for where i live at. i hve only used 91 2x on my car and my wife put in 87 or 89 1 time b/c she believed gas is gas crap until i showed her the difference...

Does chevron have ethanol in their mix?? You seen the Commercial "Chevron w/ Techron" in it.. but you never know

Posted by: GrayGhost1

I only ran 93 octane in my LS when I had it. I never used anything else. Of course here in our town all gas stations only have 87, 89 or 93 octane.

For some strange reason 93 is not available in my area. I have looked for a station that carries it for the 2 years I have had my LS. Of course when I travel and come across it I do use the better gas. Otherwise it is 91 all the time.

thanks for the replies. anyone can mention if they have used it in the past, and share the experience. the previous owner of my car said, "when gas was really high, i was putting half 89 octane and half 93." He was a wealthy man from england so i don't know why he would mix the gas.

idk...maybe. i can honestly say, i've never seen an ethanol station. plus i don't believe ethanol is the next energy resource.

Here are the Top Tier gas stations: http://toptiergas.com/retailers.html

You will notice Entec on the list. There are Entec stations in Montgomery, AL. They offer a special blend of 93.5 octane. It has its own pump!

Here in Mass, We have Sunoco offers 91 but 93 is only 1-2 cents more so always go with 93.

Car loves Shell 93 VPower and hates HESS gas,,lol

Same here.

The highest we have in The People's Republik of Kahleefornya is 91. It was 92 until 4 or so years ago. My LS got better mpg and power on the 92. Whenever we are out of state and can find it, I use 93+.

Posted by: Roadwarrior50

The highest we have at most of our gas stations here is 91 octane. But there is one by my house which has 94. Usually i just throw in 91 but sometimes its nice to throw in the 94 octane tune and have a little fun.

Posted by: eastcoastLS

i always use 93 octane no matter what. also what if you could get 110 octane? ahaha

Posted by: NateRW21

I don't recall ever seeing any 91... Just 93; and 110 on the south end of town

Posted by: mharrison

87, 89 & 93 is all I can find.

I run the 93....I ran 87 for a while, but it eventually started pinging, so I went to 93 and haven't looked back...

Posted by: my04lincoln

I run 93 in mine! The 93 here is the same as the 91.

We have Gas City around here, a local owned company which I believe is franchising out into the southern states, each station has race fuel, 100+ octane, I'm gonna fill up with it next time I need gas to see the difference, right now I run 93 only.

Posted by: pagan_blood

i run 118 on my quads

Yes, I run 91. I don't think we have any stations on town that have 93; I think there's a station in OKC that has 93, but I'm not going to drive that far for gas.

Posted by: eastcoastLS

could the ls handle 100+ octane??

Posted by: Macoffutt

I run 91.. Havent seen a 93 here in Omaha, NE

I do the same now. I used to run 89 and sometimes 87 for some reason. Coils blew twice. Moved to 93 and haven't had problems since.

I've started using 92 octane alot from Speedway gas stations because of the big discount I can get there through their reward program. I only know of one station in my area with racing gas but their pump is currently down. If I don't use 92 then I use 93. When I drove through Amarillo, Texas, the highest octane they had was 90! I added a bottle of octane boost just to be safe. What I have observed when traveling is that the higher elevation areas, like out west, have the 91 octane as the highest grade. Regular is usually only 85 octane.

Up here in the great white north....
My town maxes at 91.
I try to get 105 boost additive once in a while from our canadian tire store...
But I'm only 20 mins to the city(Across the water from Detroit)So when thats the case , its Sunoco Ultra 94 alll the way.
Its funny , i just mentioned to my wife last night how i was getting the odd spark knock , even tho i use "good gas".Yet ANOTHER reason for her to hate my hot rod..."see good gas means nothing"...Guess i should keep up on the octane boost.Although its been almost 60 degrees here the last two days , quite a difference on all things fuel...

YOU LIVE IN WINDSOR??

Posted by: 02lsv8sport

I have always used 89 in my 02 V8 Sport without any hint of a ping and with excellent performance. I once tried 93 octane with no change in performance so it was 89 from then on.
