Daughter's 2000 Mustang

Ex bought my daughter a 2000 Mustang 6 cylinder for her 16th B-day.

Had it one day and now its first glitch.

Occasionally the car will not start while in park. Car will start when in Neutral.

I figure it is some kind of switch.

Any quick simple answers?

Daughter is upset because step-father says she can’t drive it until he checks it out. (No love lost with this a**hole – big power trip and he knows very little about cars. Talks big but know little). Step-dad will pull the car if she doesn’t obey him.

So now I have an upset daughter with her new car and she stressed because old step-dad is running a power trip.

Sorry didn’t mean to rant on him.

Sounds like it could be a bad Transmission Range Sensor....but I am no Mustang tech....but that is what it sounds like to me....or whatever they call it on a 'Stang.

Any solution that is quick or simple or would this need to be taken in?

There maybe crap in the connections not allowing the terminals to keep in contact with each other....Try removing the connector and seeing if there is anything obvious in there, or lack of dielectric grease. Either one will cause the terminals to lose contact.

I would not know how to test the transmission range sensor on the Mustang, because I would not know what pins to tell you to check the ohm load on them. What I would do, if the above does not net anything, is call Max @ 5 Star (1-800-866-1520 ext 236) and see what a new one costs (if it is called a transmission range sensor) and if it is cheap enuf....purchase it.....that is most likely what the problem is....

You wouldn't think that something as simple as this would create problems. I only tried to help find the problem.

There are those time when the thought crosses the mind. LOL

Just figure he has to be a very unhappy and insecure person if this is his only way he get his thrills. My nick name for him is "Super Dad" as this is what he tries everytime we are together. Forgets that these are not his kids and that they have a very present Father (who has physical placement).

Anyway this a$$hole has helped keep me in court for 10 years. 2.5 years left then the youngest turns 18.

He was going around bosting of this great car he purchased and how he wanted to keep it for himself. It's nice for a kid or a beautician but no muscle.

Now my step-daughter and I are looking for a Mark VIII for her. Her Dad agrees with it and said go find the car. (She's still saving for it and wants to purchase it with her own money. Claims she will have more pride in the car and appriciate it more if she gets it on her own.)

She's looking for a car around the $1500 to $2500 range. Almost had one last week. Nice '94 with only 115k could have gotten it for $1500 but someone beat me to it.

This has really turned into a farce!

He's now accusing me of sabotaging the car!! All I did was take a look under the hood to see what it had.

My daughter proud to show me the engine!

2 1/2 years left!

What an @$$hole! Yeah! Right! You'd sabatoge your baby's car. In the old days, they had things called neutral safety switches.

If it's still an issue, try this: Push against the shifter--pushing it hard on its park position; then, try starting the car. If it starts, it's a safe bet that the problem can be corrected by adjusting the shift cable, tightening it. My best guess is that the adjustment would be where the cable attaches to the transmission.

The thing is that if @$$hole or an associated party is going to buy a child a car, why on earth don't they get it fixed? Wtf? Why buy it, whether they paid cash of on payments, and have it sit dead?
