digital dashboard beeping

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

I have a 93 contiinental with about 85000 original miles. The problem is this. I will be driving along and two things happen that cause the digital dashboard to start beeping. First the oil pressure gauge drops and the beeping starts. The beeping lasts for as long as the oil pressure gauge reads below normal.

Second, the message display side of the dash goes blank an cycles through the system check and beeps for up to 5 minutes. The beeping eventually stops and all the gauges work fine.

A local mechanic replaced what he called the dashboard cluster but this didn't work. Unfortunately the rebuilt cluster he put in reads 125000 miles The next mechanic changed the what he called the oil sending switch or unit and that actually stopped the beep for about two weeks. Now it's back to beeping. It's worse on short trips around town and on long trips it might beep for five minutes every hour or so. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

you need some solder joints on the back of the cluster repaired. as evidenced by the milage changing on the odometer when it was changed the 1st time, a used one was put in, and probably needs the soldering done too.

This is a fairly common problem on teh 88-94's. here is a link to how to remove cluster, and do some basic repairs (other than the soldering). you need to remove the cluster and disassemble it to do the soldering.
