Traction OFF- bad ABS speed sensor?

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Posted by: Calabrio

Yesterday afternoon, I got both new O2 sensors in.
Then I replaced the passenger lower control arm and tie rod.

I saw some cracks on the wire leading to the ABS speed sensor on the spindle. I don't think all the struggling helped it any. I got the car back together and now the traction control is staying "OFF"

If that ABS sensor finally kicked the bucket, would that be the obvious symptom? That's pretty easy to replace (about $60 part), isn't it??

ABS Sensor from PartsAmerica.com was $60.99 +tax for the one I got. Free shipping on orders $50+. Part number is ABS530039.

The TC Off is one symptom, but if the sensor is actually the problem then it will also be accompanied by a constant ABS light on the message center.

Yeah, I have the ANTI-LOCK light on now too.

How long did it take you to replace? Can I access everything by simply removing the tire?

Haven't gotten the part yet. Other parts on the order have delayed shipping. But it does look like everything should be accessible by removing that tire.

There's a bolt holding the sensor to the spindle, which you'll need to remove. This bolt also secures the wire holder to the assembly.

You may be able to pull it out from the inside.

If it's stuck in there, you can remove your brake rotor and knock it out with a hammer and a socket extension. (Note that doing this will demolish the sensor).
