My retro-fit project

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Well since the genius engineers at Ford decided to make the halogen housing for all Marks that is too small for the bulb(heat wise) and then make the reflective material in the housing carp, I have decided its time to do a retro-fit kit. So I took some pics and showing off the progress so far.

THE BEGINNING:
I bought a set of old beat-up housings and started stripping the parts off of them that were more in the way that anything else. I am going to have to send these out to get re-chromed and I'm also going to do the reflector housing for the projector:

Here you can see I have lopped off the front cover:

This is the issue with these headlights, "Like a candle in a Hurricane!":

Now for the good stuff! Got a projector housing from a 350Z and I'm going to use the factory Nissan ballast and a factory light(4300k) so the light will be more white than blue:

And after about 2 hrs of using a Dremel(and eating enough plastic dust!) I finally got it to seat in the way I like, plus since the housing has a flat base it sits in the mark housing perfectly but of course Ill have to do a couple of test fits to make sure:

I'm far from done but just happy I got the major stuff figured out on this one so the next one should be a walk in the park! Ill post up more once I get closer to the actual install! I will being using a clear lexan for a new cover, but I have been kicking around the idea of making molds and making up a batch of completely new clear lexan lenses..havent decided yet.

Where did you get the 350Z projector from and how much did it cost?

Just got them off ebay, but inorder to get them into the housing you basically have to trim off alot of extra stuff.

Man those things look awesome. My dad works at a car dealership, hes the painter there, and i have been on the lookout for some projectors, and I have a question,(which is probally a stupid one) but owell,. How hard was it to cut and re-do the wires for the projectors? Or are you able to use the factory lights onside of the projector,b/c I saw you said you are going to use the fatory light..was that the 350 factory light or the Mark's light?...once again,LOOKS AWESOME MAN!

Im using the Nissan factory ballast and Xenon bulb, but Im going to wire them off my mark harness(only for a turn-on signal, Ill be putting in a relay directly off the battery for power). But the factory ballast from Nissan is great...2 wires!! Then Ill be using the factory High-beam as normal with a Halogen bulb.

Ill be sure to add up pics and a write up for that part of the install as well.

I hope that turns out good, its looking great so far
I was tempted to try this as well becasue I wanted HID's, but I didn't have the nerve to cut open my good halogens lights so soon after getting my car, lol... I found alot of info on the hidplanet.com forums. They have a great swap meet section if your looking for parts like this...
Keep us updated on the progress please
