The Car Connection spoke to GM vice chairman Bob Lutz at the Chicago Auto Show who told them a bigger, badder Cadillac built on the new Camaro chassis could be in the works. Lutz said the reason Camaro's expected on-sale date was delayed was so that the platform could be better integrated with future products.
While Lutz never utters the name "Sixteen" in the conversation, we just have to wonder if the ultra luxury Caddy is what GM has in mind. We reported back in December that GM had absolutely no plans for the Cadillacs of Cadillacs, but maybe, just maybe, Lutz has changed the beancounters' minds and the company will, after all, make real the Sixteen concept.
It's really funny, I read everywhere that "Cadillac no longer views Lincoln as a competitor..." Then they turn around and try to plan a MKR (Mustang platform) fighter on the new Comaro platform after seeing it become a hit in Detroit. The only way that Cadillac leads is in HP and getting other companies ideas to the market sooner. They see what Lincoln is planning or has and they take all of those ideas put more HP in there ideas make ridiculous MPG claims like "Best fuel economy in class" (which is a bold faced lie in every comparison I have read on the Escalade/Tahoe/Yukon it is 12 mixed not the propsed 16-22) and reach the market just in time to take the credit and sales. I will say what I have said for a long time Ford innovates, Gm immitates. And don't get me started about the number of ideas they took from the 2003 body Navi for the 2007 Escalade. Ford is just guilty of slow concept to production times. I think this might be why we have heard nothing about many upcoming models from F/L/M. Maybe they got the hint to keep things under wraps a little longer until it's time to sell them. Anybody else see what I am talking about with L Vs. C ?
