mileage on original shocks

I'm getting ready to put in Eibach lowering springs and I'm debating replacing the shocks at the same time... But that is a healthy chunk of change considering I just recently put all new brakes on it (with cryo power slots at $150 per and EBC red pads front and rear) as well as the winter Blizzak tires i'm havin mounted today. Anyway, I'm at about 65k and the shocks are fine right now but i'd like to hear from you all what kind of mileage you got out of your originals as I have no idea of their quality.

If they are not leaking chances are they are still ok. I have orig still on my caddy at 92k miles

Good Thread! I have 90K & I want to put lowering springs on also but dont have sport shocks. I want to know if it would be worth swapping out sport shocks with the new springs. Would there be a noticeable difference?

thats a good question. I've got around 107k miles on the LS now and still have the stock shocks on it. It still runs great. Engine is real smooth, transmission is my only concern, had the fluid changed and they siad it looked good and it shifts fine. Almost forget the tech siad I was going to need ball joints sometime soon.

I took mine to a shop due to knocking and they said it was the strut/shocks, and that was at 79k so I got them replaced with monroe for 500 and of course the knocking got worst and it ended up being what I thiough it was the ball joint, now it knock like none other. Dont go with monroe.

There was a previous thread about this, I don't remember who it was but someone stated that they had put the sport shocks + eibach springs on their LS and said it was a little too bumpy for their enjoyment. Unless you are going to be tracking your car or don't really care about comfortability, do it. Otherwise, just buy the OEM shocks and put em on there, it will be worth it in the long run. Especially since you are already going to be doing the springs.

To clarify.

The Lincoln LS Sport shocks ARE OEM. Several of us have Sport Shocks with the Eibach Pro Kit springs, and have no complaints. The ride quality is barely diminished, but handling is noticeably improved. The sleeker overall look is a plus as well.

There is another OEM shock called the Euro..which is stiffer than the sport. Apparently THAT shock in combo with the Eibach gives a VERY stiff ride. Unacceptable to some.

Also, I had 72k on my stock sport shocks before I replaced them with new sports and Eibach pro kits. The shocks were still feeling fine before I swapped, but I could DEFINITELY tell an improvement after the new ones went on. Better damping, and more control. Just like brand new.

I have 49600 miles on my LS, it is at the dealer as we type getting shocks replaced under warranty. I also have Eibach's on my car. The shocks are the standard type (not the sport), and they ride just fine with the springs. alot better that than the stock springs did.

Lowering springs, no matter what the brand, will cause the shocks to wear out early. The springs put a lateral stress on the shock piston. My shocks lasted ~25K before the side load was too much and the seal started leaking.

nate, i did the same as you for brakes. i got them cheaper at buybrakes.com though. do you have a terrible squealing problem with your brakes? i used alot of antisqueal stuff and it is just terrible

Replaced them at 68, had the sport (not lowered), replaced with sport.

As for the brakes, I put EBC redstuff and the EBC rotors on the car and squealing is gone (I didn't care for the semi metalics that were on the car originally cause they were so noisy), and in my opinion stopping is much smoother and better after that - that was about 50K and I still have a LOT of life on the EBC redstuff brakes.

Kudos to LSKoncepts for getting me my shocks on time, even though Ford was back ordered - they managed to get them to me in my needed time constraints. I think they now stock the EBC products too.

The suspension on my 115k miles LS is stock, has never been replaced, and the dealership mechanic said the other day that it ran just as good if not better than the rest of the lower mileage LS's in the area. I went there to get the front brakes done for the new 20s. I don't think the suspension will last too much longer now.
