removal of the radio/HVAC trim piece

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

What is the correct way to remove the wood grain trim piece around the radio/HVAC? I need to take it off to replace a few of the light bulbs in the HVAC controlls.

Also, I need to replace the fuel gauge light as well, I just don't wanna break any of the trim pieces! Any help would be great.

Thanks guys! Rich.

To remove the center stack on the dash for a 95-96 follow these directions.

Follow these directions to remove the gauge cluster to get to the bulbs behind the cluster to change them. The bulbs are 168 or 194 type bulbs, I actually replaced mine with LED bulbs.....a lil more expensive, but last longer and are brighter.

Hope this helps ya out man! You can find quite a few step by step help for first gens on my website here. If you have some step by step help you can forward it to me (with pix if you have them) and I can place it on my site so other ppl can see it.

WOW! just getting the stupid thing apart was a challange. Whoever designed all of the parts and pieces around the radio/hvac and shifter should be hit with a stick. ecspecialy those little lights in the hvac unit! They weren't burnt out, they just weren't making contact. There are 2 wires coming out of the bulb which are kinda crimped into place by the little plactic base that the bulb sits in. What a joke. They quit working in my friend's 94 as well. Anyhow after taking all of the lights apart and placing new bulbs into the plastic bases they now work. Or I could have waited till mornig for the ford dealer to open up and spend a fortune I'm sure. The light on the rear defroster switch quit working as well, another fun one to get at. It just appears that the car wasn't designed on paper but rather made to fit as they built it. I still love my MARK VIII, just can't believe the way it was put together.

Thanks Ray! those instructions really helped as somebody in the past told me that the radio surround had just pulled right off! I would have broke it if I hadn't taken those 2 bolts out first!!!

I'll do the fuel gauge light another day!

OK did the fuel guage light tonight, Once again if I didn't have the tech write up on removing the air vents I might have been in trouble.

Thanks Ray!

Glad I could help. The guy was right about the radio surround, but on a 93-94 only though....totally reversed.
