ok just lookin for some quick ideas, i did a search but way too many hits
my cousin has a 94 mark, and of course the trans is acting up, when starting from a stop it revs up then pops into gear then speeds up to 30 and thats it, the way she is describing it it sounds like it just runs up first gear and wont shift, the biggest issue is that they live in washington, so its not like i can look at it, one shop said it will need a new trans (of course) without even looking at it and they were quoted $2900, i told them they could get another mark for that, i was thinking the 1-2 servo issues, sorry i dont know about the trannie issues (i got a gen 2 )
thanks

to me, it sounds like the 1-2 shift springs, one way clutch?, low tranny fluid. ( but a shop already looked at it ) or it could be the torque converter not locking up when it suppose to be. i dunno. just giving ya a heads up what it could be.

see i think they called a shop and they said it was the trans, and she said the fluid was full

if the tranny is "big banging" when it is trying to shift. it is going to be the 1-2 shift springs. i had my mark to this to me last month. the fluid was low so i did a complete flush with the updated tranny pan. then exactly 1 week later, the problem resurfaced. so i did the 1-2 shift springs. found that the bottom spring was broken in 3 places. no damage to the bore of the tranny. and now everything is running just fine. i would have them replaced. if that fixes it awesome, if not there is something else going on. but i would have them changed just to find out.

ok..........................the shop where they were at said that the trans was bad, so they replaced with a 98 trans, and guess what it has the same problem, so im thinkin the mlps or the vss (both were most likelly swapped over from the old to the new trans) just wondering if anyone else has ran into this before i try to diagnose it over the phone, and as far as i know there is no check engine light, no flasing od light etc

First thing I thought after reading your last post was That the shop miss diagnosed the car and it didn't need a new tranny. So, your sister should not be responsible for all the cost. I would bet it's the MLPS. That's just a guess. but I think she has a good case against the shop. Only problem is if you tell them your going to take it to court, They will keep the car. So, once the car is fixed and it is something other that the tranny that was bad. I would take it to court. I have never taken someone to court before but, I think it's such a scam they pull on so many people. That I would seriously consider doing it. Just my 2 cents.

i agree it should be free,(cousin not sis, its ok tho) and trust me i know all the "in's and out's" of shops

Posted by: JoeyLincolnMK8

ok.. it is a possibility that the torque converter could not be locking up properly. im not ruling out the MLPS though but i would check the one way clutch to be on the safe side too. yeah i agree since they misdiag'd the problem she should not pay for jack! let us know.

if you guys figure out what is wrong with her car I would like to know because ive had a car sitting at a friends(still there for almost 10 months) that did this... sorta his trans started to slip one day. then it was toasted wouldnt shift. So he bought a 02 mustang gt trans swapped everything over to make it work. It worked sorta for a few days (first and 2nd worked) then all of the gears were gone after a few more days. He put a new MLPS in it and trans came with a torque converter that he used. Occasionally we start it and first will work but most of the time it just acts like its in neutral. BTW Reverse always works fine. Check Engine light does come on after about a half a mile or 2 of driving.

Did you rewire the main connector to make the 02 trans compatible with pre-98 car ?
