spark plug spacers?

hey everyone. ive got some heads from a 368 big block from a V8-6-4 motor they have these spacers or something between the spark plugs and the plug holes it looks like flame is supposed to shoot out of this small hole in the spacer. does any one know what this is or wether or not it is factory equipment?
