Cigarette Lighter eating fuses.

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

I can't put a fuse in my #8 slot without it blowing instantly.

Short? Wiring problem?

If anyone has had this issue before, I could really use some info/advice..

I tried google, and found nothing on the subject.

And I'm dumb, and don't know enough about cars to diagnose it on my own.

It is shorting out somewhere. If you don't feel like you are qualified to trace the wire and find the short take it to an automotive electronics repair facility and have them find and fix the problem.

If you think you can do it your self you will need to take apart the center console and find where the positive wire on the cig lighter is touching a negitave or grounded surface.

If that's all it is, I ought to be able to handle it fine.

I can find shorts.. and fix them..

I just don't do in depth electrical work.

Just fixed mine a couple of days ago, one connection must have been hitting metal because it would just blow the fuse when you installed it. Just put some electrical tape around the connection and that did the trick. Now I can use the smart cord for my passport solo s2

I had a penny in there from the coin tray the other day, and that blew it.

Everytime I use the cell charger in my 93 it blows the fuse.

As long as the lighters are the only thing on the circuit then I'd say it's definately a short at the socket.

I also thought of hardwiring the Passport x50 in.. you guys had experience there?

Yeah, I just used the ACC wire on the radio, it works perfectly for my RX65
