fuse/headlight questions

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

couple of fuse questions.

my cigarette lighters are both down.. im thinking bad fuse?

Also, I'm trying to figure out how to turn off the automatic headlight feature.

I thought about pulling the fuse, but I'm worried it's linked to other electronics.. is there a simple fix that I'm missing?

Yeah. Checkng Fuses would be a good start.

If they're both out it's the 20A fuse in the upper left side of your fuse panel. I bet it's burnt, takes two seconds to check it.

What's up with people's auto lamp features/DRL b/s??! If you roll the auto lamp wheel all the way down, your headlamps are off. Right? Cause...... I've had two marks, both are the same. I never have any lights on unless I turn them on.

Update me if this doesn't work for you out of curiousity....

DRL - Daytime Running Lamps. It is canadian law to have your headlamps on at all times while the vehicle is running. It has nothing to do with Us Standards, though some manufacturers have implemented this "feature" in the US bound cars as well.
It also has nothing to do with the Mark's Autolamp Feature.

The guy is in TEXAS. Probably not a canadian vehicle professor small dick.

It's also the same year Mark viii I own. Unlike yo'self.

I was answering YOUR question, man. Apparently your Short term memory lacks.

Oh well...

You like it to look that way to spectators don't you. Lol. Hopefully the guy at least has a couple ideas out of this to start his troubleshooting. I'll keep other posts clean from now on, and, sorry for the post going this way blk96LSC. I have the same car as you and have no problem shutting off the automatic headlamp feature. I guarantee your 20 amp fuse is blown for your lighters. I beleive they are on their own circuit I blew this fuse prior and noticed nothing different though I fixed it immediately for my radar detector is my life support.

Yeah.. I'm buying a valentine 1 soon.. and I noticed that my lighters are down! lol

I'm replacing the fuse tomorrow.

As far as the headlights go, they come on automatically at night.

The first night I owned the car, I turned them off at night, though.. i remember because I used that tactic to avoid being.. well.. let's just say I was quicker than the radio that night.

But ever since, I can't turn them off at night when I want to.

Turning them off worked once.

hah.

the was a month+ ago when I bought it.

and thanks for the advice.

Don't buy the V1, read reviews before you do so at least........

PM me your cell number, I'll show you how the Escort passport X50 was designed for the mark viii through a couple pic messages. Kinda joking, but not necessarily. Lol.

www.radartest.com

read the comparisons, and reviews.

http://www.tccoa.com/articles/misc/index.html then click on police traffic radar.. worth reading!

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/New-E...75039039QQrdZ1 for the passport. Best brand new price on the best detector and it's still cheaper than the other junk.

SUCH a better radar detector. I've moved on from the V1!! I even compared them side by side on a 1200 mile round trip. the V1 gives way too many false alerts. Is annoying. Is hard to see around. And, is unsafe if you're hauling ass the last thing you want to do is take a hand off the steering wheel to reach the mute button to deaden the ANNOYING SCREAM on that microwave sized p.o.s.

Anyways. Good luck.. sounds like you just need a new switch.

Posted by: blk96LSC

Hmm.. after reading those articles and realizing that i get a significant emplyee discount on passports..

yeah, i'll be picking one up soon.

and a new switch?

damn.

Knowing this car, it'll be expensive and hard to replace.

lol

Update.

I tried replacing the blown fuse, and as I was putting the new one in, it blew as well.

Short in the circuit, maybe?

Anyway, my dad's gonna take a look at it when he's in town and help me figure out the problem with it.

I checked into an escort 8500... i can get it for 185$ (i work at best buy)...so I'm gonna buy one next week.

thanks for all the advice/help guys.

Just a note. I always keep my auto lights OFF! This is so the housings will not burn! I see many Mark's rolling around with there lights on in the day time. The sensors are bad. This has nothing to do with thw DRL's though!

I have a V1 and I like it. It seems the biggest gripe they have in that "review" is the user interface. I will admit it isn't finely polished in terms of user friendliness, but I don't think I'd trade it in on another detector. I find the directional arrows to be invaluable.

One big bonus with the V1 is that you can actually send it in to be upgraded (something that is not even mentioned in that "review"). The Escort passport and Bel Pro are throw-away detectors.
