exhaust questions

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Allright, I have a couple questions about the exhaust on my 97 Mark VIII.
The only restriction I have right now is the cat.

1. Can I remove it and what about the oxygen sensors?
2. Will it be unbarrably loud.

The car has a real nice sound now, but I am just curious if anyone is running like this and what their thoughts are.

I'd leave the O2's where they are, the upstream 2 are critical for the engine to run properly. As for the 2 downstream O2's (after the cats) are only for the computer to let it know that the cats are working properly... if you take out those 2 cats or 2 downstream O2's, it'll throw your CE light on. For exhaust purposes I've removed my 3rd cat and put duels on (except I don't remember the set up of the 2nd gen's?). So in a nutshell, just run a 2 1/2" catback exhaust... some people like to throw an X pipe or 2 X's like I have, but personally if I went back again I'd do straight duels.

P.S. cats do not restrict flow unless they are clogged
