Someone broke into my LS!

Hey everyone....
Yesterday when I came from work and got into my 2001 LS i realized someone had broken into it. All they took was my insurance card and registration card. No windows were broken and there was no other damage to the car. I ALWAYS lock it everytime i get out (its like 2nd nature for me to lock it) so I know I didnt leave it open, and its in a pretty busy parking lot too. Does anyone have any possible ideas of how someone could have gotten into my car? and does anyone know what this person can do with my insurance and reg. cards? Please help me out thanks!
Jesse

Sounds like a repo guy's work or someone who knows how to open the car without damage. Who ever it is now knows where you live. I hope you reported the theft and break in.

How did you determine this? Do you check for your insurance and registration card every time you get in the car?

Where were they? Is there any chance they fell out sometime and you just noticed?

yea i reported it to the police, they just made a report theres not really much they are going to be able to do...when i got into my car all my CD's, sunglasses, cologne and some receipts were all scattered on the passengers seat/floor as well as a few items I had in the door pockets, and my ashtray and center console were open. When I opened the glove compartment I noticed the pouch i keep my user manual, insurance and reg. cards in was gone. Im just wondering why they would only take those cards nothing else and not damage the car at all.

Mine was broke into 2 weeks ago. The went in through the drivers door lock. They somehow were able to disable the alarm this way. They scattered things and also went into the trunk. They left that was left slightly open. I sidn't think of checking if the registration was missing. I keep it in the drivers door pocket. They didn't take anything though.

Mine was broken into last month. Didn't take anything. Pried out the passengerside door window. Bent the trim to hell. $1000 damage all for NOTHING.

Are your license plates still on the car? I wonder if someone was trying to "legitimize" a stolen car...

Either way, this would make me VERY nervous. I'd make good and sure your car is well locked at home (you could go out one morning and the car be gone) and all your doors and windows to your home are secure.

If it was a repo guy, why wouldn't they just take it there?

That is what I was thinkning.

Check your credit, maybe they are trying to steal your identity. They figure since you drive a Lincoln, you have money to steal.

That is definitely NOT the case with some people on this board (you know who you are!)

i had a problem with my door lock and I explained a quick and easy way to break into the LS.. i would write it again but some members were actually mad that I mentioned it because it pretty much showed ppl how to break into the LS..

all i would say is to check ur handles.. passenger or driver.. above or below.. check for any small holes or anything u can notice.. u might not notice it at first.. if they didnt go in like that.. then i dont know

The car may not have been in a place where they thought they could drive away without a scene. Most Law Enforcement Agencies will not allow a repo if called to the scene and conflict exists. That is why repossessions work at night to quickly get physical possession of the car before the owner can get there to protest. But more likely, the thief needed to know where it was parked for a more leisurely encounter. Either way I would be very watchful for credit scams or illegitimate loans against the car's title.
