are they really out of production?
is this the beginning of the end for maintaining these cars?

seems like lots of parts are disappearing...

It is possible.

do they come with a blow job ????????????

Posted by: marked8

Just found a few on car-part.com complete with ballasts for $300 per side used.

Posted by: evillally

I got mine from Car-part shipped for under $600 for everything...

Posted by: Calabrio

I tried Car-part.com but the HIDs were extremely hard to find.

Harder to find were pairs, and, oddly enough, passenger side HIDs.

And even harder yet, were junk yards that new what HIDs were, and that their halogen housings weren't them.

With that said, HIDs are a great addition to the car. Especially when some aftermarket bulb options exist.

Posted by: GMAN

I lucked out and found a set of HIDs six months ago at a salvage yard of a 96 LSC. I got a hell of a bargain at $75 each. A lot of the salvage yars dont know what the have and what is highly sought after and what is not. Deals like that are out there, they just have to be sniffed out.

so.... how much you selling them for nowthat you got the gen 2?

Posted by: Redwingvksm

Isn't by LAW that ANY part that ANY car manufatcure HAS TO CARRY FOR 10 (yes, ten) years AFTER production?

That would leave it for 2008 for the Gen II's...Any solid facts?

Passing that on to my son. I've got him hooked on to the Marks

Posted by: 2002WRXSTi

I got my LSC HID's on EBAY but only one side at a time. One was from Austria and was a brand new housing for $300

My main problem was that I only had one functioning HID setup. So I went to my friends body shop and he set me up with a HID bulb/ballast setup from a Lexus. Works perfectly and the parts are available off the shelf if I ever need a replacement part now

$1199 for a set of headlights that retailed for over $1500 seems like a pretty good deal considering that these lights are no longer available from Ford. And if you're in the market for a new set of 1st gen HIDs what other options do you have? It's called a sellers market...

Posted by: evillally

I call it a circus of Ford bull$hit.

Posted by: Calabrio

In truth, unless my next car is a Mustang, Ford has made me absolutely certain to NOT buy another new Ford product. This pattern of part discontinuation is absolutely unexcusable.

And if you think we have it bad, the Taurus owners are apparently in worse shape than us Mark VIII types.

Honda and Toyota, I can walk in an order the most obscure part from any year. Ford, I can't get the friggin' light bulb and other critical parts.

Didn't they also discontinue the cross-over tube too?

Same here. My next is a GM.

Allegedly. But supposedly you can use crossovers from other 4V models with modifications.

How so? I always though the Taurus was one of their best cars; the FWD kept me away from buying a SHO/24V Duratec...

Posted by: 4.6powa

i kno the older taurus/sable's had junk tran's.

Posted by: Moes8

yeah ,but for example ,my wifes 97 taurus had foggy headlight lens, i bought 2 brand new headlights with bulbs for $45 each,

why lincoln ,why?

We turn them away at the Used Car lot I help out at.

Car could be in excellent shape but you never know when the trans is gonna wet the bed. Then the car just isn't worth the price of a new or rebuilt trans.

Ya, thats my thread over there. Not happy at all as I was really looking forward to getting a set But I am going to hunt all I can, someone HAS to have a set somewhere. But I am not going to pay over $1200!

Posted by: JC1994

I paid 1045.00 a year and a half ago from 5 star and would do it again, WELL worth it.

Have doubts about company, but they do say they have them for $90 a piece!
Bulbs Here

Posted by: unity

HIDs can be had for cheap. 89 is not bad. But, these are NOT 9500 HIDs like in a Mark. A HID is not universal. The link is to D2R and DS2 which I dont think will work. Also the link shows for 1993 - No HID were even made for US cars in 93, the late 95 Mark VIII was the very first US produced vehicle to have HIDs.

Yeah but that bulb looks just like the burned out one that I have sitting on my bench still hooked to the Ballast

I have gen2, but noticed gen1 owners were having issues with replacement bulbs.
Can do a model specific search from link!

Posted by: cdat

Also found this, not too sure, but seems like alternative. Says direct replacement/ plug n' play.

Just sent e-mail asking if they had bulbs, will pass on info.

Okay, that link from just before to JCWhitney.com for those capsules will not work. Those are AC. The Mark uses DC. If you have DC to AC ballasts, then yes they would work if you also modified the housings and even then they would not be right because the focal point would be off. This is sorta what I thought and what someone from anther forum told me when I asked.

The second "conversion kit" link will have the same problem. Halogen housings are NOT designed to be used with HID. Sure, you will have light but it will be scattered and focused wrong.

And the Gen I and Gen II capsules are technically the same. Mid-97 they switched to a plug and go capsule versus the attached ballast. But the capsules themselves can be purchased and used in a gen I or II with little to no work. See here: http://mywebpages.comcast.net/wviand.../hids/hid.html

In short, you will NEED the right HID capsule for the right job, there are no short-cuts.

Yes there are. I investigated the HID bulb and focal point debate for about 2 years as I had Projection lights in one of my cars. Focal point is of utmost importance in that situation.

However on my 96' Mark LSC housings I was able to use the DS2 style bulbs and ballasts out of a Lexus with slight modification to the housings. The light output is great! The bulbs are available and cheap if one does go out for some reason. So yes focal point is still a factor but it is not as big a factor with the Gen1's that I have

I want to get to my local wrecking yard and snap a pic or the 5 Mark VIII's they have sitting there

Of course all are missing the headlights

Posted by: BLACK SUNSHINE 95LSC

rediculoud that a headlight bulb is not available, gotta have lights, they burn out, and they break when you "JACK" you car into another, so why!!!

I am gonna go down to my local "POT" growing place and put 2 500 watt high pressure sodiums up front, that L showem !!

That would be a rare mod there , someones gonna do it now

Posted by: unity

But they are available. They were extinct for a while, but like a bad Jurassic Park movie, once extinct they are now around again. But who know for how long.

I bet the next thing that will be impossible to get will be front air-spring. Sure, there are reman but not one of these seems to either hold up or have a new shock portion, just the bag replaced.
