I have an '89 LSC, rough but ready. Will a later model SE dash cluster (with a 120 mph indication) work properly in place of my 85 mph lump? I saw a cheap one for sale on eBay but don't want to waste the time or money for nothing.

My rear seatback is not flush with the front of the rear shelf and I can't seem to figure out how to raise it and hook it into the catch back there. That gap is driving me CRAZY even though no one rides back there.

My dash lights work only for a few seconds when I open the door. When I turn on my lights, it is like a black hole, particularly when driving at night, as I can't see how fast I am going. Also, I can't adjust the climate controls because I can't see them, either. Maybe related, my temperature guage has never moved from below the cold reading.

I did replace the leaking gas tank, and the fuel guage seems to be fairly accurate, as is the DTE reading. The fuel guage seems to have a mind of its own, though as it moves to and fro when I accelerate or make a turn. It does return to the correct position after the car settles straight.

Any help in these areas would be greatly appreciated, and I really enjoy reading the threads here. I love this site!

The later dash cluster is a straight "plug and play" deal. No crazy modifications needed there.

When replacing the dash cluster, I would run a new wire from pin 15 on the harness that goes into the cluster to a good ground. It's either a bad ground or a bad switch on the dash for the interior lights. Here's a tech article on the ground wire fix: http://www.lincolnsonline.com/tech/00109.html

My '87 does the same thing with the fuel level gauge. IIRC, it has something to do with something on the back of the cluster. I'm not 100% sure on that, as I read it years ago on another site. Doesn't really affect anything, so I've left it alone.

Hope this helps and good luck with the car.

I have an a dimmer switch from my old 85 Mark VIII that needs a home.

Free if you need it.

Also I have a nephew with a Mark VII who want's to part it out. If you need the dash cluster I'm sure I can get it for you cheap... I'm not sure of the year of his car.

Just send me a PM and let me know what you may need.

I'd love to have the dimmer switch and the dash cluster. I'd like it if the speedo is the 120 mph one, as currently have the 85 mph. Let me know what he says.
