Squeaky brake syndrome ?

I know this has been discussed here, but is there any sort of TSB regarding this issue. This is in regards to the brake pedal in the interior and not the actual brakes. I have an '05 which is under factory warranty and i had it into the dealership this week. The brake light came on quickly and while it was there getting other service i told them to check the brakes for the squeak and the light coming on. They charged me for a brake inspection??? WTF. I understand brake pads and such arent covered under the factory warranty but if a warning light comes on and i want them to check it i dont think i should be charged, especially when they found nothing wrong. Its only like $30-40, but its the principle behind it.

Well, you did ask them to check something (strike one)
and you knew going in it was not a warantee item (strike two)

And of course the Stealership did not really do what you were asking them to (Foul tip),
But now you don't understand why they charged you for it (STRIKE THREE, YOUR OUT).

Come on, did you think that the Technician that they had look at your car worked for free! I'd bet anything there are signs all over the service writers desks about "Flat hourly Rates". It was right there for you to see (and comprehend apparently).

nah, that check should have been covered under warranty. I'd call and complain.

Worn brakes: no. Brake problems which could cause the brake light to turn on: of course they are!

He should not have been charged anything IMO.

I have asked my dealer to check out all kinds of things. I have never paid them a dime. Of course the 4 years/80000 km of free scheduled service that Lincoln gives its owners in Canada doesn't hurt (it's 1 year/12000 mi in the USA I believe?). And this covers brakes. Had mine done at 60000 km. I had them change the windshield wipers too. Like I said, I've never paid them a dime, and I didn't even buy the car there. Maybe some of you need to find a better dealer.

And here in Ontario Canada, we have some decent consumer protection laws. Auto mechanics (electricians, plumbers, et all) need to give you a written estimate unless you explicity refuse one (careful what you sign when you drop the car off!). The repairs cannot exceed 10% over that estimate, unless a new estimate is given and accepted. The customer can refuse the new estimate and walk(drive) away. You should check that out; you might have something similar in Florida.

Well, let me first say i didnt just drop it off. I had a scheduled appointment for a tranny flush/fill and fuel filter replacement. That alone was about $250. Then, as i posted a week ago, the braking warning light....not a brake light bulb went on briefly. If a car is under full warranty then a "check" shouldnt be charged regardless, especially when i am already paying for other services. I understand that they dont want people to just drop their car off for little nit picky things, but LincolnTech guy on here said that the squeak is/could be the master cylinder...sooooo i thought maybe the two occurances were related. I am on vacation right now, i didnt drop off nor pick up the car, my father did it for me while i was away. Its not alot of money but it seems like they just wanted to make an extra $40 off me. I have a Ford Explorer rental that when i return it to the same dealer i will have a discussion with them, but i thought i'd have more to stand on if there was a known issue with squeaky brake pedals. Otherwise they did everything else i wanted including fixing the rear window problem.

P.S. My old man was kinda jealous driving the LS to and from the dealer for me. Might be a future LS purchase in the future.

I am returning the Explorer monday morning so i'll definately have an answer by monday afternoon. And another side note, my LS V8 gets about an average of 19ish mpg after around 500 miles. The '06 Explorer i have is averaging 17.8 mpg over 460 miles so far, with alot of city driving. Its not the worst mileage but i dont think the bad rap that SUV's get are all that big a deal. Its a 4 wheel drive too which i think drops the mileage a bit. All in all the '06 Explorer has been a pleasure to drive so far. Not on par to the LS but for my first SUV experience i am impressed.

On the mileage, my wife's old Suv gets better city mileage than the LS (18's for the suv, about 17 for the LS), but is not nearly as good on the highway (24's for the suv, about 28 for the LS).
then again I'd expect that from comparing a sohc v6 five speed manual trans 4x4 suv with lsd in both axles to a dohc v6 with a five speed automatic open differential equipped sedan. I mean its not even close to apples to apples.

Well, here is the outcome of this whole scenerio. It was explained to me by my service advisor (who has always done me right at the dealer) that the Lincoln LS doenst have the normal wear indicator that most brakes have, the little metal doohicky that rubs and squeals. Instead the LS used a very precise sensor in the fluid reservior that detects slight drops in the fluid due to brake pad wear. This will then illuminate the brake light on the dash (kudo's to those who called it right). It is then this light that tells the owner that its time for new brake pads. Well since the brake pads and all that are not covered by factory warranty, which i knew, the charge was correct. He explained that particular light isnt considered the same as a "service engine" light and therefore carries a diagnostic fee regardless of warranty. Whatever, sounds logical to me, fee was $44.98. I ended up saving an additional $36 when i returned the Explorer rental so in the end i lost $9. Let me tell you how happy i was to get back behind the wheel of my LS after driving a V6 Explorer for 9 days. What a f*ckin mushbox that thing was. Anyone who doesnt appreciate thier LS go get a rental for a week then get back in your LS.

Actually, brake pads and rotors were covered under warranty on my 2003 (as distinguished from 3-year free regular maintenance). I know this because I and other 2003 LS owners had brake jobs done for free!

I checked the 2005 warranty guide and now those items are expressly NOT covered.

Well, I have finally got my squealing brakes silenced.

Since I've had my car, (2 years this month) the brakes have squealed. I took my car to CarX last year, ($280.00) had new ceramic pads put on, the brakes still squealed. After haveing the rear bumper cover replaced/painted at a body repair shop(from being rear ended by a Jeep cherakee, and had Checy Aveo for a renta) I took it to the stealership to have the brakes looked at, the frt tire was leaking air, and the rear tire sounded like it had a flat spot. Well, the stealership turned the rotors and put on the goo to the brake pads to stop the squealing.($195.00, all together the bill was $359.00) No sooned than I get down the block, the breaks start squealing again! I call them and they said bring it back. I didn't have time until: My passenger window wouldn't open, then drops into the door and won't raise up, so I had to put back into the stealership (cover by warrenty/ got a free rental-2007 Town Car) the stealership guy said they had to replace the ceramic pads with Motorcrap and put the goo on the pads. (another $195.00) I agree, cause I'm tired of the squealing. HURRAY!!!! problem solved! No more staring looks by other drivers. I am sooo happy! Now for that bumpty front stabilizer bar.....

Yea I have a squeaky brake problem too.. its like and rotating cherp on the passenger side and when I apply the brakes the noise stops.. but on the drivers side it squeaks when I hit the brakes.. idk what the fcuk is wrong cause I just had new pads put on and still same noise.. what do u guys think I should do.. any advise??

Did you or a Ford repair shop do your brakes? I was told that the rotors had to be turned because one was warped. But, the dealer had to replace the ceramic pad with motorcraft parts inorder to apply the special goo to stop the squeak. The dealer told me the motorcrap had a 30,000 warrenty not to squeal. I heard a light squeal yesterday and looked at the brakes. I think they only changed the fronts ones. I have to call them and chew them out, I've spent too much time and money to get 2nd class repairs.
