exhaust/mufflers

I have been pondering the idea of cutting the mufflers off for a while now. I wanted a bit of a thoatier sound, My buddie came over a few days ago and we cut his two rear mufflers off, WOW! it sounds just like the 04 cobra a few houses down from me. I then cut mine off as well and had 24" chrome 3 1/2" tips installed. $45 bucks for the tips and $90 bucks to have them installed by the best muffler shop in vegas (imo) The guy really does nice work. Anyways now it sounds mean and it has that clean thoaty sound that I was looking for. If you are thinking about doing this then go for it! You will be happy you did. No lie! it sounds just like a mean stang.

I had some exhaust work done this past week too...by the best shop in Surprise, IMHO...Notice the length the installer went to get the pipe laid inthere just right on the last shot...

It sounds more agressive with the resonator removed as well. I should get around to replacing the resonator with some pipe in my car.

Did the same thing this past summer.. Very nice sound without the mufflers.

All a Mark VIII needs then is a nice set of tips to give it a sexy a$$...

Only thing that I found you have do do is cut the further around the 90 degree bend so you have more exhaust to work with when putting on the extensions for the tips. There isn't much exhaust left to play with unless you are a great welder (which I'm not)..

But if anyone wants to change the sound of the Mark VIII and make it more agressive... I agree.. Just chop off the rear mufflers.

Yup, its a '92 LSC SE. Its not completely official yet. Need to find out what the clicking is in the rear end and take it through emmisions. Would you believe that I am removing 1992 O.E.M. ingition components? The car had the factory "snow shield" around the distirbutor cap too.

Ditto- Stainless is the best. But if use get a stainless resonator and or muffler make sure the insides are also stainless. Had a muffler setup on the Grand Marque that was supposed to be "stainless" ended up only the exterior was stainless. The interior baffles rotted out in a little over 2years -just past the warranty -rattled like I had marbles in the pipes.

And fyi, make sure it's 304 stainless (like Borla), the other will actually rust, just not as fast as steel.
