Navi System Retrofit

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Posted by: postalUT

I own an 02 LSE. I got the bright idea to install an '03 and up factory navigation system to replace the '02 6 disc alpine factory system. Does anyone know what this entails or how much parts may cost? Would it be easier to spend $1200 on a pioneer unit? I don't want to buy a garmin or tomtom system because I dont want any extra equipment with wires dangling all over the place. I want to keep it clean and factory. Also the only '03 navi systems i've seen use a silvery color for the trim whereas my interior is black and rosewood. Any suggestions? Comments?

If I do the retrofit I'll be sure to post pictures of the install.

i suggest lookin for threads that pertain to this in the SEARCH section.. i remember someone mentioning that this process would actually cost 2000-2500 to do...

Do a search; it's been covered many times. The synopsis is that you probably can, but for the time and expense, you'd be better off going with a Pioneer or Eclipse or Alpine unit.

I would like to do this as well. I guess I will have to go with Pioneer or something. I just want mine to look as stock as possible. I want it to look factory.

If I could find a wrecked car where I could get every single piece I needed, I would probably do it. Otherwise, a Pioneer AVIC-Z1 is a much better choice. The cost of buying all the wiring harnesses, amps, etc etc to power a factory nav system is just too prohibitive. Besides, when it's all said and done, you will have a much inferior nav unit to the Pioneer. I've had both...I know. Aftermarket can be made to look factory and offer you much more features.

what set up do you have? What all did you have to buy for the system?

i was going to do that i bought an 03 nav system and there was just too much stiff to do and not worth it it would cost about the same as if you just bought a aftermarket. trust me i attempted

in my opinion the best unit out is the Pioneer Avic-Z1.. im saving up to get it next spring because i take my car off the road for the winter..
