Fuel Filter

04V6 LS

The maintanance book calls for the fuel filter to be replaced at about 30k miles. Has anyone had this done by the dealer? What did it cost? Also has anyone done this themselves and is there a How-to on it? I couldn't find one when searching

its easy. remove drivers side wheel and its behind the plastic shroud. takes an hour by the time you take the wheel off and put back on, etc.

be carfull when you disconnect the filter, for whatever reason when I did it, gas sprayed everywhere and got on my face....Not a good thing. I almost went to the hospital. Just be really careful when disconnecting the old filter

It IS very simple and you can pick up the filter almost anywhere.

Steps are:
- disconnect the battery
- jack-up the car on the driver front
- remove the driver front wheel
- pull back the wheel well liner - couple of plastic pins
- the fuel filter is on the inside of the wheel well - held in by a bolt/bracket.
- the fuel lines use standard Ford R-Clips (you can get them anywhere if you break one)
- wrap the fuel filter with a rag before pull back the fuel lines - as it is normal for some fuel to drain

- just for fun - pour the fuel from the filter out into a clear container - you'll be shocked at how dirty it is....

oh thats right you should relieve fuel pressure before you do this:-) LEt it sit for a few hours (or overnight) then under the hood on the drivers side fuel rail there's a bleeder valve. I just laid a rag over it and pushed the needle w/a small screwdriver. OR you could pull the fuel pump fuse then start the car till it dies. either way you should relieve fuel pressure to keep gas from spraying everywhere.

i did everything wuick said, however i did not disconnect the battery, and i opened the gas cap.

The Purolator replacement fuel filter I purchased from PepBoys came with replacement plastic clips included inside the box..

That is the way to do it! If you follow beaups suggestions for releaving the pressure, you don't have to let it sit at all. You can change it immediately after driving it.

Just took my 04 V6 to the dealer for some minor warranty repairs and had them change the fuel filter as well. That was a mistake. They broke a clip on the connecting fuel line and said they had to order the part from ford b/c they could not get the clips without the fuel line. They replaced the fuel line and clips at no charge but it took them 4 days for a 1/2 day job. Ended up costing me $30 for the fuel filter (WTF?) and $35 in labor. I also had them pull the door code for me (another $50) for a total of about $120. Last time I let the dealer do anything that is not covered under warranty.

easy job to do yourself . . . I got the filter locally for like 10 bucks and it took me about 15 minutes
