Ok, so I finally got the car I once dreamed of throwing all my money into..and now I've noticed some issues that scare me a bit. First one is that there is a squeaking sound near the steering wheel...is that normal for its power steering or do i need to replace something? Also, I noticed a really hard shift from Park to Drive.....is that normal too? I'm worried about my transmission being that I bought tha car with 20k miles on it....I'd be grateful for some help, thank you!

Just do a search for LS issues, problems and repairs. It will give you some insite on where to start throwing first.

Welcome aboard.

I did a search and didn't see any common issues with power steering, unfortunately im still in the learning process of getting to know my lincoln. Thank you for your help, I appreciate it. Take care!

What year? What engine? I have heard about some power steering issues with '03+ models. It might be a bushing or somthing in the rack. As for the tranny, does it do it when you are parked at an incline or a decline? I notice with mine that if I let it engage in reverse before putting it into Park, that it does not make the sound as much. Welcome aboard!

My '02 had a squeak in its steering wheel. You had to have the radio off and a/c on low to hear it, even then it was a very slight sound. There was never a problem. My new '05 has a few squeaks and rattles here and there, nothing thats "broke" though. Maybe your being a little critical with it being new? I think most cars have some sort of noises.

hard shift from park to drive is normal

The only steering wheel squeak I get is while it telescopes out. Wait, I guess that is more of a steering column squeak!

Mine shifted hard from P to D when I first got it, but it seems to have softened some.....or I've just gotten used to it.

At any rate. Enjoy your new LS. I know I wanted one LONG before I got one. Occasionally I look out the window of my house, or look around inside the car and say...."Damn, that is one nice looking car!"

i havent noticed any squeeks from the steering wheel but most of the time it is hard to go from "P" to "D5" the same thing happens when i go from "D5" to "P" but i fixed that by going to "N" before i go to "P" --

We need to know which year your LS is before we can really help--there aren't many issues that cross all years of the LS.

If it's an '04 (or maybe an '03), there is a TSB covering a steering wheel squeak; with so few miles on the car, it should still be under warranty, so the dealer should be able to fix it for you for free.

We need the year and model of your LS. But I can tell you that my 04V6 LS had a noise in the steering colume when turning. There is a TSB on this, they put in an additive/lubricant to the power steering fluid. It's been fine ever since.

There was also a recall about a hard reverse shift (park/drive to reverse). I never experienced it but the dealer put in an additive to the tranny fluid.

Had the same "squeek" when turning the wheel on my 04 LS Sport. TSB mentioned an upgrade in power steering fluid. Had the dealer take care of it due to warranty, problem solved!

the hard shift is a 100 dollar repair. You need to have your tranny flashed. Mine did it for some time then i got it flashed and it was fixed. jsut a suggestion

The TSBs are available from third party subscription services, such as All Data. LLSOC also has them, but you have to be a paid member to get copies.

Hey thanks for your help Nick, I have a 2005 V6 LS (I shoulda just got the V8, because I'm stil spending an insane amount each week in gas)..I notice the sound mostly on an incline....my driveway isnt much of an incline but it still does it...so I dont think it makes a difference. I took it to the dealer and they added some additive to the tranny fluid (I'll find out what and let you all know)...and ever since its been much smoother...you guys are so much help I appreciate it! As for the power steering..stilllllll squeaking....

Posted by: Blueyedqt85

LOL..yea I do the same, gets me angy because theres so much I'd like to do to it, not enough time, not enough money! I love the front end...something sexy about it, the rear id modify if I could..I plan on smokin out the rear lights anyways...maybe thatll help..

I don't know if the TSB applies to '05s, but the next step after the fluid change is replacing the steering rack. If the problem doesn't clear up shortly, take it back to the dealer and tell them it's still there.
