Effects From 1000+ Watt System?

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Posted by: JPsBored

Getting ready to drop about 1000 - 1500 watts in my 2000 LS.

Had bout 3000 watts from 6 10's in my mustang and dealt with normal wear n tear from the pounding. ex: loose mirrors, license plate mounts, screws, moldings, wing, etc...

Knowing how SENSITIVE the LS is,,lol was wondering what to expect.

so far mine hasnt caused much problems, i dont have a spoiler though. and when i turn mine up, i lay down the seats, also have 200 bucks worth of dynamat.

Yea plan on EDeading trunk, truck space. Sure all that will help.

i use Raam mat on my silver ls 62.5 sq ft. The trunk is the worst on the ls... i used some foam products as well to get in between the gaps, if you google raam mat youll see it being talked about on alot of audio forums, i would highly recommend it if you plan to pursue over 1000+ watts, i have a adire brahma 12" on a 3.5 sq foot box sealed to 38hz as my daily driver. good luck with the project

damn do you really need all that power -- i think with a 600 watt system i will be happy with but hey let me know how it turns out.

i have a 1000w rms mono sub amp with a 1 farad capacitor. if you listen to your stereo loud often then protect your battery. i just replaced mine because the voltage at idle wants to be about 13.9v but with the stereo full blast it will drop to 10.9v. when you have that voltage abuse constantly (5 months or so) then the cells in the battery may go bad. that is what happened to mine. needless to say that the alternator doesnt like that either. so i recomend either a deep cycle battery or two batteries in paralell to have more reserve power for the long listening times at high volume.

oh, and your trunk will probaby rattle along with your rear deck and licence plate and your spare tire too if it isnt tightened down.

do caps really help? would one hepl my lights from dimming or should i get another battery? i was told the cap wouldnt help, but was wanting some input from ppl who use them sorry to get off the topic.

From what I havr heard and experienced past systems, the cap does help not as good as a second battery,,but it helps.

I haver the sport pak,,2000.

have found Dynomat - Second Skin - RAAM,, sound deadeners,, any experiences with any?

upgrade u`r alternator man.. mine died and i have 2 800w kenwood amps and the car couldn`t take it. right now i just have one sub and one amp hooked up and my lights still dim. gotta try a cap and alternator next. also gonna put a switch in so that i can turn the second amp and sub on when i want it because one is more then enough but sometimes u just wanna getta headache :-)

Hell yes my hearing is an issue,, thats why a good thump and highs n lows from bout 1000w system should be good.

Had a 3000w system in a 99 mustang and i was saying WHAT,,HUH alot.

Now that I'm 30,, its all down hill from here,, so gotta be careful with the hearing,,lol

Oh yea and the rummblin of my B**** needs to be kept to a low too. wanna have kids someday

Posted by: shokher

once i put the cap in the headlights stopped dimming. also the bass hits noticeably cleaner at idle because it keeps the voltage where ihe amp needs it to be.

Posted by: shokher

oh yeah, you might get wierd gremlins in your car like this video. its boring but is shows my sunroof closing when the bass hits. wtf!!!!

Posted by: BanginLS

i have dynamat.. no problems with it...

Posted by: omegaomr

i have no prob im running over 3000w but i got 200$ worth of dynamath and 300 of dynamath sound dampening material and about 30hrs of hard labor trying to cover every hole

oh

I've got over 2000 watts in my ls and I've found that as long as you've got good wiring, a high output alternator and second batter, like a yellow top, stinger, etc., you shouldn't have any problems. I'm actually putting a 40farad cap in just to make sure everything's running at its best, also because I get a mad hookup on Rockford Fosgate stuff. Oh and dynamat too, I've gotta get that done.

40 farad? dont they call that a battery? how much do they cost??

Yes, I know that Rockford Fosgate and other companies produce huge capacitors like that. The RF one costs around $350-450. Here's a link that might help you out.

I'm definitely going to get one as it will really help my system while I crank the volume up during long trips on the highway.

Wow it is 40. I figured he meant 4.0f.
