Fuel Filter Removal

Having A Hard Time Removing The "top" Connector Of The Fuel Filter. Is There Something I'm Not Doing Right? It Does Just Pull Off Right?

No, it does not pull off.

The easiest way to do it is to purchase the special Ford type fuel/AC spring connector, that requires a special 3/8 inch tool that will help release the compression fitting.

EDIT: I submitted the response as quickly as possible, hoping it would prevent FDPuma from damaging that line. I'll elaborate now:

Thanks Calabrio, I did not mess up the line. Just put the old filter back on (for the third time) and will go to the Ford Dealers Monday to get this part. This is why I'm on this forumn and will soon (very soon) apply for Gold Member Status. Again thanks, I thought I might be just doing something stupid.

When I replaced mine I just replaced the 2 little plastic clips with new ones. :dunno:

Just called Autozone to see if they have the part in their arsenal, and they do for $9.99, so off to see Autozone Sunday after work to complete the adventure.

I didn't want to dick with mine so I took it to the dealer and had them do it. I think it cost about $30.00 plus the filter to change.

The disconnect tools from Autozone didn't fit in mine. I just got a fire extinguisher ready, then hit it with a sawzall, and removed the stub from the line.

A sawzall!?!? WOW. That seems like overkill!

I clipped mine with a wire cutter, then used a 10mm socket to free the stub from the clips that held it to the line.

Yeah you just clip it with the wire cutter and pull it out. Don't go and spend your money on some tool. The clips should be White.

The 93 filter is different from the 97.

On the 93, there are "teeth" inside the fuel hose that runs out of the filter and up to the fuel rails. The teeth grip the top of the fuel filter and hold it tight. You need the tool, or in my case, a socket, to separate the "teeth" and remove the filter.

The 97 is clipped in place. Piece of cake. Pull the clips, then pull the filter out.
