cats & federal warranty

dont know if you guys remember but awhile back i posted that i thought my cat converters were going bad. i barely passed smog check out here in California (was 1 point below maximum allowed values) and a few times in the past months i've smelled the rotting egg smell cat's are known to give off when they go bad. the smog check guy said he was almost positive the car would fail smog check next year, but by 2007, my car will no longer be eligible for free cat replacement because it stops at 7 years (i have an '00).

so i'm kind of in a predicament... i want to get the cats replaced while i can still do it for free, avoid that $1000+ bill next year... but the dealership won't do any work unless the cats have actually failed, or are in obvious need of replacement, and since i passed smog check they refuse to touch them. what do i do? anything to "accelerate" the cat's lifespan so i can get this work done by the end of the year if you catch my drift?

leaded gas. it will hurt your 02 sensors though, race gas will shorten your cat life significantly

oh and I was talking about the same thing there. most race gas is leaded cam-2 etc.

its 8 years or 80,000 miles on the cats and PCM

Is there any reason you couldn't have the car retested any time you want??
