no power when I try to start

On the hottest day in hell my car decides to jack me,

I trun the key , I hear a little click under the hood and I have no power in the car at all,

after I pull the - battery cable and rehook it up I get juice to the whole car, then try to start .... click and no power to anything again..

could this be the starter drawing too much juice making the relay pop??

anyone have this happen??

my battery is less than 6 months old and clamps , I am getting power to all the big fuses and the under the hood fuse box.

Have the battery tested.

Sounds like a bad cell.

like I said its like new , I'm getting 16-18v off the battery

when the wife comes home I'm going to swap out the relays from her car .

what are the chances the it just a relay ?? do they go bad or is it something making it pop??

are the relays a dealer only ?? if so I'll be at pic`n`pull in the am robbing some t-bird

my meter is about 10 years old and really small and crappy

Posted by: chickenviii

then it sounds like a bad connection at the batt you removed the cables and put them back on and it had power again, well sort of, id say poss bad bat cable

ok I checked the battery with a deffernt meter (one even I cant misread) it says
low (yellow light) 12v ..... could this make a relay pop?

below is a pic of this fine pice of work.

wtf?????just its got 12v dosent mean it's got 700ish amps at the cables, check all the connections. just a little corrosion in the wrong spot could make it not start

without a load on the battery you really can't tell if its providing the power you need

I took a wire wheel to every thing ...... the clamps that I've had on it for atleast
6 months one is painted black and one is red. were the cables are bolted down thier is just a small strip that isn't painted. so I cleaned that up also the 2 smaller wires the are hooked to the + side the eye holes were a little crusty and rusty looking . so I ground everything and I'm good.
