Gen 2 HID bulbs on backorder

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Apparently, the HID bulbs for the Gen 2 headlights are on a national backorder, till November\December. One of my bulbs went out a few days ago. So now it seems like I'm going to have to drive it at night with only one headlight until winter. Are there any other feasible options for bulbs out there?

Contact Dennis Reinhart, he may have a solution. Apparently, the HID's may not be made anymore period...

^^ what he said. I guess Dennis spoke with ford and sylvania, Sylvania said "call ford", and ford says they "might" be available around december.

Dennis is trying to get a company to build us some HID bulbs off a couple factory bulbs that he sent in, price may be around $400 for this "kit" but may be cheaper. I don't know all the details, but if anyone here works with DOT it would be nice to see our options.....

The '98 Mark VIII isn't even ten years old. There is no replacement bulbs for our cars '95 -'98 ANYWHERE. Isn't there some type of law against that? Because there SHOULD be.. I'd say if I was ford I would have started reproducing these this time last year, or at least made a newer hid like in the Zepher have a bulb that is interchangeable between us. It's b.s. no matter how you look at it, if your bulb burns out, you're just out.

This is quite scary, actually. 8 year old car that has no options for lightbulbs from the manufacturer.
What about aftermarket stuff? Is there any conversion kits that could be used to convert to a newer and more readily available style bulb?

I found this listing on ebay - http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Xenon...spagenameZWD1V

Other than the color temperature being a litthe on the high side (9000K), is there any reason why this wouldn't work?

Posted by: poniesviii

Does anyone know what "K" rating ours are? Must be 7500 maximum eh?

9 or 12000's would be nice. Anybody think they'd hold up in factory HID lamps for the gen 1?

no more bulbs for Gen 1's or Gen 2's?? we need to do something about this BS....

Posted by: 94m5

Stock is around 4500K

anymore than that, and your not only making it look gay, but your actually decreasing availible light output. The higher the kelvin rating, the less actual light your eyes are able to use.

I install nothing but D2S bulbs in my VIII's. I have plans for adapter plates to retrofit them in to the stock HID housings. I had a feeling this was gonna happen one day, and decided to do something about it.

Please provide more details. What are D2S bulbs, and what type of retrofit is necessary?

What can we do to get bulbs now?? You guys know that sellers on ebay are laughing all the way to the bank because those bulbs and assemblies are gonna fetch big money!! My left bulb is turning yellowish, i'm gonna be in trouble pretty soon huh??

I called Ford, Lincoln and a local Motorcraft distributor (JK auto) and all three said they are no longer available - check a junk yard. This Sux!
