(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

hey,

Im in the market for buying 4:10 gears, and a 3000 stall torque converter.

I am looking for the lowest priced goods.

I was told that if i buy The gears I would need a new driveshaft??? If so please let me know.

I was planning on getting the Gears and DS from www.supercoupeperformance.com

but dont know where to get the right converter for my car

BTW*** I have a 1997 Mark Viii LSC

You cant put gears in the 97 till you swap out the metric muffler bearings.

The lowest priced gears (and IRS 28spl. trac lok, which is a must) would come out of a U Pull It type junkyard... If the gears are in good shape with usual wear you can use them, rebuild the trac lok.

what u pull it has cars with 8.8s and 4.10s?

4.10s aren't the only option. 3.73s are available. I prefer 3.73s, I don't want to be limited to only 175mph

The cheapest set up for the 8.8 comes from Summit Racing. Summits Ford gears are made by Ford Motorsport and are $152.95 for the 3.73's and $134.95 for the 4.10's.

The FMS Trak-Lock rebuild kit's from Summit are $40.88 which I do not reccomend because MOST of the Ford carriers you will find to rebuild come from a stick shift car which brutalize the differential pinion shaft, it wears an egg shape into the bore of the soft factory iron of the carrier case and will cause premature failure down the road.

The Ford posi unit is $214.88 from Summit then you buy gears and bearings, oil etc and your set.

I also can't reccomend enough the FMS carrier stud kit fom Summit at $30.88.

Id like to see anyone beat Summits pricing overall.

Oh, and let me apologize, I didn't read as thoroughly as I should have and didn't notice that he had specified 4.10s. Used 4.10s usually go for within $20 of $100 on eBay so it may be worth it to go with new from a reputable parts vendor like Summit.

Disassemble it completely then reinstall JUST the differential pinion shaft and then "wiggle" it while it's in the bore and you will see what I am talking about.
