chrome stripping

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Summer vacation and i finally have some time on my hands. I want to replace the chrome stripping around the front bumper, sides and rear. I cant find anything like it at pep boys or auto zone. Anyone do this before or know where i could find the right siize stuff?

This company,

http://flexchrome.com/

has the chrome strips for the bumpers of the Mark VIII.

They don't actually have the originals for the doors and the quarter panels but if you measure the length that you need and order the strip numbered HR0186 in the length you need it fits great.

The bumper strips have a different contour on the adhesive side. The door and quarter strips are flat on the adhesive side.

I replaced mine on my green 94. You can see photos of it here: http://www.lincolnvscadillac.com/sho...157#post196157

paint it black, it looks sporty! my 2 cents!

Posted by: billcu

That does look cool. Especially on a light color car.

Posted by: turborich

Thanks, I like it! I guess on a darker car chrome would be the way to go though.

paint it body color

I like that idea also.

Painting the chrome body color looks awful IMO. Your eye knows something different should be there but there isn't.

does this look awful to you?

Posted by: turborich

I think your car looks bad azz! It just makes it look sportier that way IMO.

To be quite frank, and I mean no personal offense, yes it does. Something should be there instead of a sea of grey.

something is there. I have all the window chrome, and grille chrome. The only thing missing is the beltline chrome, which Lincoln themselves replaced with body colour panelling on the LSC models. But it is personal taste. I am much happier with my car now.

And it's not grey, it's "Midnight Opal"

I agree, I like having the chrome painting body color.

Posted by: turborich

Looks good!

Monochromatic is the only way to go. Looks 10x better then chrome. IMHO the ONLY chrome on a car should be the wheels. I got LSC front bumper and side moldings and just painted the chrome on the rear bumper because at the time I had the car done I couldn't find a LSC rear bumper.

BTW I'm not saying I like the chrome strip, my VIII is green and the line is black.

Posted by: gangstaMK8

chrome will get u blown

Posted by: turborich

I guess it all depends.... It looks good on GangstaMK8's car, I just don't like it on the lighter colored cars I guess. I like the black on mine, Probally cause its a light colored car and goes with the tinted windows and tires. I also like the chrome on some cars but I really like the same color as the car as well!!! Hmmm... I guess it looks good all 3 ways?

I likes da chrome

Posted by: buddylee

Black chrome is it best of both only if they made it in strips.
