I went straight pipes...

I got my mufflers chopped off yesterday on my lunch break, and welded pipe and tips on to complete the look. It sounds so amazing. the rasp, i love it. it sounds like a cobra now, THANK GOD. I got a few people stop me and ask, what you got in that thing. lol. Its quiet crusin below 2k but from 2-3k its nice and deep, and at wot if your behind the car it realy hurts your ears, but you can barely hear it inside. Im a satisfied customer.

My friend did that on his t-bird. It sounds nice but I can gaurantee it doesnt flow nearly as good as full exhaust with no resonator or 3rd cat.

i havent heard a Gen1 without mufflers......on my LSC it sounds pretty deep at idle, almost sounds a little lopey, not that loud though...... at a light you cant hear it, till you step on it .... only drone thats there is between 2K-2250rpm, weird, and thats taking off really slow only, otherwise nice sound during cruising, you get used it.......everybody tells me it sounds like a muscle car , either that or they ask me if i got flowmasters on it .......

i can tell you i am massively in love with the sound of the LMS system on my car. It's ridiculous, and friends have noticed an increase in power since the install. Weather permitting, I will track it this weekend to see if I picked up anything in the 1/4.

How much did that run you? HOw do the pipes look under the bumber of a gen 1. i got a 93 so no grooves for the pipes. can you post a pic?

I paid 350 for the double x pipe and tipless mufflers from geno, and then 390 CAD to have it installed with full custom piping at my local shop.

no mufflers is the way to go. removed 2 small cats, added a 1 high flow cat, a resonator and 4 inch tips i am going to be posting the sound for all u non believers out theyre who dont like the sound without mufflers.

yea, well i changed my mind. When everybody and their brother has something that can be heard from a block or so away...ya kinda get a little jealous. :P

dont worry geno, the next step is the lms system. i just wanted loudness at almost no cost, for the time being.

if you are going to get some exhaust work done wouldnt you at least do it right, make something that actually sounds decent and makes power. Hacking off the rear mufflers is doing nothing but annoying the neighbors. Now my cutout, on the other hand, both annoys the neighbors and makes power. And when I dont feel like pissing off the entire town I leave it shut(which is most of the time). But knowing you after reading a lot of your posts, I am beginning to be less and less surprised by your acts of immaturity and I believe that you would most likely drive around with it open 24/7. That said, it is possible that I am giving you a bad idea to go for the cutout. Plus I probably paid less for it than you paid to get your mufflers hacked off, and the sound is deep without a hint of raspiness.
Your careless disregard for yourself and others that I have seen in other posts that you have made puts you down on the level of ricers, the only difference is that your car is both faster and heavier than theirs, making you much more dangerous.

If you just remove the mufflers it wont sound right the small cats are suppose to be taken out and the so called 3rd cat should be replaced with a high flow cat and then have a resonator put on and after that it will sound very nice and not loud to the point where you are pissing people off. I t sounds like the motor should sound. There are alot of people that use muffler eliminators on there cars because it sounds so much better than having mufflers on the car, when done the right way.
my 2 cents i will be posting the sound of my exhaust this week for everyone to hear.

well, what i did was remove the mufflers and resonator...i still have the 3 cats, so it does muffle it to a good extent. The sound quality is all in the ear of the beholder as it were, and imo its sexy...same with quite a few people (including my favorite local cop-er)

I think we should have a stickey with exhaust posts, LIKE MOST OTHER CAR FORUMS!

I guarantee my car doesn't sound like crap and I'm not running any mufflers either. headers, high flow cats, custom X-pipe and 2.5 dual straight pipes out the back. is it loud? HELL YEAH!!!! do I care? HELL NO!!!!

I heard it today. Both Walt and myself thought it sounded better then stock, especally for free!! It wasn't even raspy like I thought it would be when I revved it up.

I was caravanin with my buddy in his fox 5.0 with blowmasters and no cats, and we would rev under tunnels and f arround like that, and we both said it sounded exactly the same.


(btw geno, i did go to the track tonight (15.028@ 96.58, replaced the coil packs..both..and the cam sensor, and i was sloppy on the take off and shifting, so im back to a better spot, but im still gettin the miss and its STILL not runnin right. Now that weve narrowed it down even further, its prolly gonna be a fuel injector, or even a wire to one perhaps. but since i was gettin the maf tps and egr codes, and the egr and tps are good, im gonna still get the lms maf unit, and see if that cures the ill.(Wilsadamis predicts 14.6 when all the bugs are worked out)))

Yeah man! When I was driving to a show with my buddy who has a 5.0 fox with flows and no cats..... You could hear our cars sing in tune with each other. Of course, that stopped once I flew past him... muhahaha

It's kinda funny. I do everything in my power to try to make my 7.0L Mustang as quiet as possible (with moderate success) while everyone else is hacking off mufflers and cats.

This i know. It is a preferance of mine to have a loud car, because i have always wanted one...never had one, besides the header leak on my monte...which wasnt a nice noise. It seems like you people dont understand that this is MY car, and that im customizing it to MY preferences. Just like mike customized his car to his preferences. (btw mike, beautiful car again!) Yah, I was like that too when I was in my teens. I think most folks grow out of it. Once I have an extra nine grand to blow, I'm going to bolt on the quietest muffler I know...

I did the same thing to my mark when I first got it, had the mufflers cut off and a 2.5 inch y pipe from the cat back put on. and I also installed a K-N panel filter. my car not only sounded better it also ran better. Andy you know I aint no hater.

The thing about hacking off the mufflers on these cars (at least the Gen 1 non LSCs) is that it's still fairly quiet. Last year my friend did exactly what MrWilson did and it's quieter than my ETC with Magnaflows.

Inspired by this thread, the fact that I was going to do some racing this evening, and the knowlege that it doesn't make the car too much louder, I went ahead and hacked the mufflers off my 94 today. It was on a whim at about 8, so there are no tips - doesn't look much different since the stock turndown tips are hard to see. I don't think I'll even bother adding tips until I do a full exhaust and cut a nice curved space for them in the bumper cover.

I lopped mine off a month or so ago and added tips exiting behind the rear wheels... sounds good sometimes, depending on the rpm and throttle position.

I need to ditch the resonator & 3rd cat and see how it sounds...

Then I need to ditch the Y-connection and go true duals...
