Exhaust build up

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Werd up homys... and girls?!

anyways im lookin for an oppinion...
iv been researching the internet and found the only full exhaust kit for a mark viii to be Genos. Now im in no way doubting him or his skills, i just dont have 1k to drop on exhaust at the moment.

so, as im browsing the internet i find 2.5 in steel piping for 30 bucks for 5 feet of it.

after further investigation i figure out the wheel base on the mark is right around 9' 5". so my question is... if i bought 10 feet of steel tubing would it be enough to make one pipe throught out the entire car?

and if so
35x4=140
+ 75 (pipe bender)
= 215

1k or 215 = I win lmk what u guys think

For that much you could probably have an exhaust shop do it. Don't forget to add the cost for all the pipes you bend wrong and have to start over. And you have to weld or clamp the seams.

and youll be replacing it every 3 years

Posted by: 95lscowner

i had a catback system put in for around 420.00$ incuding two flowmaster and two tips look at my pics

Posted by: Nitrobasher

could you give me the name of the shop?

i was told Midas would do it for me but im pretty sure they would charge me well over what i was planning on doing

I got my exhaust done for 220 excluding the muffler..

I've been trying to get your exhaust audio clip to play all week with no luck.

How's it sound?

The one with the rap music is working though. I think that sounds really great? You're just running the magnaflow 2/2 with straight 2.5" pipe all the way out the back?

Any performance advantage? Did you see an increase in MPG?

I noticed a slight improvement in performance. But its hard to tell without putting the car on a dyno before and after. Suprisingly, I got an all time high of 28.5 miles per gallon on the way to the track not too long ago.
It got around 26 before hand. BTW, Ill try re-uploading just the exhaust clip.

Are all the dual in/dual out magnaflows built with the X-chamber inside them?

Yep, Dynomax now makes a muffler almost identical to this one.

I've heard one complaint about the Mark VIII's exhaust note is due to the fact the mufflers are so far in the rear of the car. By using the dual in/out in the middle of the car like this, I wonder how much this affects the tone?

Posted by: poniesviii

I don't think it would affect it much. I think it mostly has to do with computer program and rotating mass. The automatic won't sound the same as the Mustang 4.6 standard-transmissions no matter what, in my theory.

I'll find out when I accomplish the T56 swap with a Mcleoud flywheel, new program, Headers, mandrel bent 2.5, One X, and new ?mufflers?.

I should figure out how to post an exhaust clip of my car. I haven't heard one on a mark that sounds better, and I'm not even happy with it. Any interest in the clip? My car is in the body shop until next week. But I'd like to see what you guys think. True 2.5 duals from first set of cats. No X or H, and cheap ass 1 in 1 out 2.5 pro-flo's. But boy they flow. Then again maybe they're called "flow pro's". Lol all I know is the previous owner put them on, and I might as well not have mufflers at all.

Posted by: MarkVIII93

Headers, no cats, full exhaust with a magnaflow x, and cobra exhaust cams and the car would sound wicked as fizzuck!

Here's a pic of the 2 in 2 out Magnaflow in stalled.

Does not affect tone! The way I describe it is a very Mature car sound. Does not sound like a Mustang.. but sound like a Mark VIII should. Subtle but yet a rubble that says I bet you wish you had a V-8.

Ive never heard my car say that before.......
Although I have heard.. "Back down beeeeiiiiittcchhh, I gotz a v8 dawg"

Posted by: Calabrio

When I have the new exhaust installed, where do I have them make the cut?

About an 1.5 inches from the O2 sensor?

And should I have them install flanges right there? Hopefully, next weekend I'll be swapping the transmission, and if $15 in flanges simplifies that process, I'd like to do that now.

A pipe bender = crush bent pipes. Mandrel bending is where it's at. You can however buy mandrel bends by the piece and go from there if you have a good welder.

Posted by: Calabrio

Just got back-

2.5" cat bat dual exhaust.
2 in, 2 out Dynoflow Ultra-Flo X

Nice tone and considerable increase in power. I haven't driven far enough to see if my fuel efficiency has improved yet or not.

Post a clip, if you can!!

post it in the exhaust stickey! thats what its for.

Posted by: Calabrio

I will. It's only been on for a couple hours. I can still smell the exhaust paint.

I recorded a "before" yesterday, so maybe my clip will help show the difference between the two.
