Gen II Mark VIII motor redline ??

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Posted by: SuperCoupe007

Hello guys/gals,

I noticed that in the cluster redline appears to be at 6K RPM. I was wondering whats the highest RPM that anyone has taken their STOCK Mark VIII ???? Reason I ask, is because my friend had a Cobra and his redline sits at 6800 RPM ???? Can a stock Mark VIII motor handle +6K RPM ??? What would be the benefits of any aftermarket chip ?? What are your guys recommendations and experiences... Trying to get as much info as possible about stock motors and aftermarket modifications.
Thanks...

I have a SCT XCal2 for my 98 Mark VIII LSC. One of the tunes I have with this tool is for the use of 100+ octane race fuel, and only flash - use the tune when I go to the drag strip. The tune has a shift point of 6750, and will do it all day long with the stock internals with no problems using 12c plugs. My normal SCT premium fuel only tune has a shift point of 6250, running BP 93 octane fuel.

From what I have read, the concern is more with ballooning the stock torque converter, than blowing-up the motor. I use nothing but Mobil 1 motor oil, and Lucas top cylinder/fuel treatment if that matters any. 97k miles on the stock motor and transmission.

I haven't seen 1 dyno on a stock motor produce more power after 6000 rpm so there really is no good reason to spin it any faster and I can think of lots of good reasons not to spin it higher.

Posted by: 98LSC32V

There is a big reason why to shift higher, I shift at 6800rpm on a stock gen 2 motor almost daily, when you shift at 6800rpm, it puts you higher in the powerband and that gives better 1/4 mile times. BTW, my car still makes a good amount of power at the rpm as well.

Posted by: SuperCoupe007

mlschultz:::::: Are there any after market converters that are more popular with the club to keep the torque converter from balooning up ??? How much of a difference is there between the stock ECU, and ur XCAL, when u go to the track ? I would consider replacing the converter with a better one.

95LSC32V::::::: The stock computer allows you to shift at 6800 RPM ?? DO you have any times to compare, when you shift at 6000 RPM and at 6800 RPM.

Thanks....

With 3.55's, don't our cars have to shift into third going through the quarter? That tune allowing it to rev higher with a different shift point would help 1/4 times tremendously in that case, theoretically, being able to stay in second a couple seconds longer, and not having that extra shift time.

It depends Goddess, not good for 1/4 mile performance... good for overall top end speed with you get rid of your speed limiter. Depends what you are looking for.

I seem to remember reading somewhere that the 96+ motors got the beehive springs. It would stand to reason they would deal with high RPM better than the 93-95s (which routinely rev to at least 6500... at least mine does.) I'd say much more than 6500 would be pointless with the stock cams though.

Marks Have A Variety Of Ratios Depending On Year And Model. Most Lsc's Have 3.13 Gears And The Regular Marks Have 3.03. I Have 1 Of Each And The Stickers Say These. I Also Would Like To Clear A Few Members Up That The Lsc Models Didnt Come Out Until 1995 Model And Started Production In March 1995. Also Lsc Have True Duals All The Way Back. Also The Leather Seats Have European Styling With Hundreds Of Tiny Perforated Holes In Seat Surfaces Front And Back. Also Suspension Tuning Different But You Cant See That. Engine Computers Most Everything Else The Same.

Mark 8's Rule

If You Have A 93 Or 94 Lsc, Some Punk Kid Glued On Emblem.

Posted by: cavemansmarkviii

The standard Marks have 3.07 gears and the LSC's have 3.27 gears from the factory.

BECAUSE I WORK ON CARS FOR A LIVING I WAS CONFUSED, YES 3.07 AND 3.27 FOR LSC, I CAN ADMITT MISTAKE AS I WORK 60 HOURS ON OTHER PEOPLES RIDES, THEN SPEND THE TIME LEFT MAKING MINE FASTER..

BUT THE ORIGIONAL RESPONSE WAS TO THE LSC MODEL IN A MARK 8 BEING MADE PRIOR TO THE 1995 1/2 MODEL, WHICH WAS THE FIRST LSC MADE IN MARCH OF 1995, AND A 1995 MODEL YEAR, HERE IS THE QOUTE FROM THAT, SORY I ADDED WRONG GEAR INFO, IT HAPPENS..

AS FAR AS POSTS, I WORK ON CARS FOR A LIVING AND WHEN NOT ON MINE, THE LAST THING I WANT TO DO IS CHAT ABOUT CARS, I DO WHEN I CAN AND MOST ARE VERY INFORMING, BUT A FEW ARE NOT.. SO TO THE GUY WHO OWNS A 1994 LSC, ITS NOT REAL THEY DIDNT MAKE ANY..

THE ARE CUT AND PASTE FROM MARKviii.ORG, FROM BROCHURES..

PEACE BRO

These were the Mark VIII sales brochures for each new model.
Additional brochures will be added to this list in the future until the list is complete for 1993 to 1998.

1993 Mark VIIIBrochure. This was the first year of the Mark VIII, a totally revamped luxury sport coupe.

1995 1/2 LSC Brochure. This sport model of the Mark VIII was added mid year in 1995.

1998 Collector's Edition Brochure. These special models were the only Mark VIII's produced during the last three weeks of production of the Mark VIII. The brochures are quite rare.

Does this mean you are going to tone things down a bit?

yes! That would be great.

I think you'll find many of us VERY knowledgeable about these cars.

I AM VERY ASTUTE IN LINCOLNS AS I HAVE YEARS OF EXPERIENCE AT A DEALERSHIP.. DO I KNOW EVERY MARK 8 SPEC, MOST BUT NOT ALL, I DO WORK ON ALL LINCOLNS AND OCCASIONAL FORD COUSIN ONCE AND A WHILE. SO I CANT KNOW EVERYTHING ABOUT EVERY FORD, SORY, BUT AT LEAST I GOT THE BALLS TO ADMITT WHEN I AM WRONG, MOST DONT, EGO GETS THEM EVRYTIME....

LIKE I SAID, THERE IS NO ONE WHO KNOWS EVERYTHING, NO ONE !!!!

I MIGHT POSSIBLE SHARE THE WAY YOU GET RID OF AIRFILTER BOX AND AIRBOX, AND TAKE THE STOCK MASS FLOW OUT AND ADAPT A CONE FILTERED COLD AIR INTAKE TOO, DONT NEED THE MUSTANG COBRA ONE, RUNS TOO LEAN..

I WORK TONS, THE SITE IS GREAT, I USUALLY SPEND MY TIME AT WWW.MARKVIII.ORG AND I JOINED IN SPRING... MAYBE WHEN I RETIRE I CAN SPEND MORE TIME ON THREADS, NO I WORK TONS AND MY CARS ARE SECOND, KEEPS ME AWAY FRON THE NAGGING WIFE...

I could honestly care less WHAT you do in your free time, including taking a long drive off of a short pier. My only stipulation to that is don't come on here telling us you messed that up out of sheer stupidity. Your no different than any of the other trolls we have had here after that little stunt. (other than a higher post count which is about to get smaller, once I remove all of this crap.)

No more. OK pumpkin?
