Fix for electric window stuck in dow position

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Posted by: Zenfollies

I learned from a Lincoln dealership auto tech the solution for a window stuck in down position.

1) with key on and door open hold switch in UP position. SLAM door closed BRISKLEY. ( 2 or 3 times ?)

2) with switch disconnected, apply jumper wire ( hot ) to Red wire - and - jumper wire # 2 from Yellow wire to ground.

3) remove lower part of door panel ( just pull away from door ) and tap on motor with small hammer - while holding switch in UP POSITION.

4) what happens is that the motor brushes ALWAYS stop on the same segment of the motor armature in the down and up positions.

I'd always just pound on the bottom of the door panel with my fist, but most importantly... when you know this is a problem, don't ever roll the window completely down until you get it fixed. Leave enough window to grab and pull up on to get the motor going. You can do this for a while until you get a new motor. It's a lot easier than what the Lincoln dealer recomended.

get some plastic on the windows

Side note-

I had the stupid little nylon gears in my 85' T-Bird, so I replaced with a drop in metal assembly with spring clutch from my 65 T-Bird front window assembly. That's right 1965 T-Bird the gear was exactly the same - just made 1000% better. I did that back in 1987 and lasted until I sold the 85 in 2003. $30 from T-Bird vendors. Now I don't know if the Mark is the same, but should be easy enough for you to check out.

Don't forget the 55 mph duct tape. This step is CRUCIAL for reducing wind noise.
