Electronic Automatic Temperature Control Unit Self Test

1. Turn ignition switch to RUN position.

2. Push and release both OFF and FLOOR buttons simultaneously; then within two seconds, press and release the AUTO button.

3. Note: Display will be blank during testing.

After about 20 seconds, a code will appear in the window. Refer to the following Diagnostic Trouble Code Directory to identify the error for the proper diagnostic procedure:

01 Damaged EATC Module.
02 A/C air temperature control door cannot reach desired position.
03 Automatic temperature control sensor open.
04 A/C ambient air temperature sensor and bracket
05 A/C sunload sensor short.

PINPOINT TEST B: EATC CONTROL ASSEMBLY CONNECTOR AND BLEND DOOR ACTUATOR DIAGNOSIS

B2 CHECK EATC CONTROL OPERATION

l Disconnect both connectors from EATC control assembly and drive actuator in both directions using any 9-12 volt battery. The following pins can be jumped to utilize the vehicle battery. Ensure the ignition is in the RUN position. All pins are located on the LH side connector.

-- Trial 1: Pin 24 (57, BK) to Pin 22 (249 DB/LG)

-- Trial 2: Pin 24 (57, BK) to Pin 21 (250 O)

l Is actuator driven in both directions?

On-Board Diagnostic DTC 03 (Warm Air Discharge at 65°F or Cool Air Discharge at 85°F).

Possible Source(s):
§ Sensor open or shorted.

Action(s) to Take:
§ Disconnect wire harness connector at in-vehicle temperature sensor. Measure resistance across sensor terminals and compare with specifications in the following In-Vehicle Sensor Resistance Table. If resistance is out of specifications, replace sensor. If sensor is ok, proceed to "Wire harness open or shorted".

Possible Source(s):
§ Wire harness open or shorted.

Action(s) to Take:
§ Disconnect battery cables. Disconnect wire harness connector from sensor and disconnect both connectors from EATC control assembly. Check for continuity and for possible shorting between the two wires (Pin 2 (470 PK/BK) and Pin 17 (790 W/O)). Service as necessary. Reconnect wire harness and battery cables.
