I just got my new toy 2001 Lightning. fast very fast. I love it. I still have my LS but will no longer have to look so hard for mods. lol

Nice! Love those rides especially the Harley Davidson editons!

I have one just like yours

Posted by: 2001LS8Sport

You are about to get bit by the mod bug like you can't believe. Get your wallet out...because there is no end to what you can do to SVT vehicles. It seems everything you do to them makes them faster.

Posted by: Palmguy

I almost got a Lightning before I decided it would be a better idea to get an LS. Nice truck bro...I still want one eventually

Posted by: 00ls-sport

if i had extra room, or extra money for that matter, i would consider it.

Posted by: 2002_LS_V8

Man i love thoes trucks... geta i/e and a pullie and u should be in the 12's

Posted by: 2002_LS_V8

by the way how much faster is it actualy then a stock LS from a 40 mph roll?, i would think not alot after maybe 80 mph..

Posted by: Fla02LS

I dont think there's even a comparison. I was driving in traffic one time with my windows down, a Lightning was right about in my passenger side blind spot, didnt know he was there. He floored it WOT and it scared the hell out of me. Sounded like a jet engine was about to land next to me. No comparison to the LS. Those things with mods can get insane.

Did you slip into a posting coma? Haha just messing around, I agree I love lightnings too.

Posted by: HyeLifeLS

Looks very nice. That's one helluva fast truck right there. Good luck with it.

Posted by: mcafferty

it is 100% stock now but what to do all the mods except the pullie first. It is like night and day between the LS the LS is quick but this truck is FAST. I cant wait to mod it. It will be scarry fast. you WOT at any speed and you are pinned to your seat. It is hard on the tires. lol They are L and LS are to totaly diff rides and I love them both but now i and beat the old GTO and 99firebird at work. lol

Top speed there won't be much difference. In fact, it wouldn't surprise me to see the LS be right there. (provided you have an LS that came from the factory with the good tires so the speed limiter doesn't shut you down) But of course, that will NEVER happen because the Lightning will get there so much quicker the LS will never catch it.

Congrats...I've always liked the Lightnings. Awsome trucks.

Posted by: LikeNew02

thats a great combo(ls and lightning)!

how many miles per gallon do you get with the lightning?

how much$ how many miles?

Posted by: js3

I think they're rated at 12 city and 17 highway?

I actually had a neighbor who worked for a Ford Dealership looking for a Harley Edition for me, when my wife decided to surprise me by purchasing the LS I had looked at.

About the time I got home with the LS, he had a message for me telling me he'd found me a truck.... he wouldn't tell me anymore details once we indicated I had gotten the LS.

I wanted the Harley Edition because the Lightenings don't have enough seating for the 4 of us.

Great trucks, insanely fast!

Nice L Mccaff. Gotta love a stock vehicle having 380+ at the crank in stock form.

I know my results will be difficult to compare here being that my LS is not stock, but I will post my findings anyways. I know my LS will hang with a stock L on a highway roll. My Explorer is a little bit faster than a stock L right now and I pull the LS like no other on the bottom end of the track.

When I get at and past the 1/8th mile marker (highway roll area) it becomes another story. My LS hits the 1/8th at 78 mph and hit the 1/4 at 98 mph with a time diff of 5.00 seconds. The X hits the 1/8th at 80 mph and hits the 1/4 at 98.5x mph (usually) with a time diff of 4.99 seconds. So even with the LS starting 2 mph slower at the 1/8 mile marker, it was able to almost fully make it up by the end of the 1/4 with very very close to the same elapsed time between the 1/8 marker and the 1/4 marker...

The LS will hang almost dead even with my X from the 1/8 mile on (highway roll speeds). My LS is one of the faster ones on this site so other results may vary. But if you take a vehicle putting down ET's .5 seconds higher than my X and go with that same number with a LS then a stocker 03+ should be able to hang pretty close to a stocker L on a highway roll.

Hope this didn't confuse anyone.

I don't know about the LS keeping up with the lightning for long. I've raced a lighting a few times on the highway - before and after mods. Exact same as mcafferty's only black - maybe slight mods - but nothing over +25-35hp. I could never keep up with it before my tuner and exhaust but after I got those additions its not too bad, I wouldn't really go as far as to call "keepin' up" when the 5.0 and L hit 140+mph! Then its over! Those two vehicles pull so hard after 100mph...its difficult to keep up...if at all.

IMO the speed limiter doesnt count. If a person considers themselves winning because they attained a higher top speed because the other person hit their limiter then that is just retarded. It does happen though. A stock L with average driver should not be able to pull really far on a modded 00-02 LS. The proof is in the timeslip. I know mine was a comparison between my car LS and my Explorer which is a little faster than the stock L, but for comparison purposes they both are about an equal margin away from the vehicles they are meant to be compared to which is the stock L and a modded 1st gen LS. It is not an exact science obviously, but it is close enough to make a rough comparison. The L will rape the LS in the first 1/8th mile. A modded 1st gen LS will hang pretty close with a stock L from the 1/8th to 1/4 markers, which are pretty close to highway roll speeds. Like I said, the speed limiter is a BS thing to win by on any account.

an update for you guys. the truck dynoed 375/456 about a week ago in 95* (much better #s if it was not so hot).
4# lower, cat back, cone filter, and tune. there is so much you can do to the Lightning it is crazy. All of this was not much more then my cat back for the LS. lol I can tell you there is no way in hell my LS can even stay close to the L. but they are in diff cats. Love both of them.

Great truck!!!!

Posted by: mcafferty

thanks
I am taking it to the track this weekend if the weather is nice.

Posted by: 2001LS8Sport

Rocket...you have a couple of very nice cars...and I'm impressed with what you have done with them. But honestly....there is no way in this world an LS will run with an L. Those things will turn mid to low 13's right off the show room floor. I ran one from 60 mph once with my old Mark VIII...which was no slouch. It wasn't even close. The L just raped it. Could I have caught up to it? Maybe...but it would have taken a whole lotta highway to do it. There are L's all over this valley running 11's and 12's...and two I know of run high 10's. Helluva truck.

Posted by: mcafferty

lol
i did not want to say it so thanks 2001LS8Sport

Posted by: JattGary

man i want one tooo
how much u pay?

Posted by: mcafferty

$18,000
love having something so easy to mod. it is a blast to drive

Posted by: Beamer

Nice ride, only thing that would hold me back from having one is the extra hit on the gas budget lol. I know a guy who has two, white and gray one, the white one is very nice. Not sure what they did to the gray one but the front bumper sags and has been that way for a very long time. Makes me want to say something.

13.1 and tons of spining. need slicks bad.
