1st run...I don't know wher I was, 2nd realized I was at the track, 3rd, started to drive like I was at the track, 4 (the one that really mattered, the elemination rounds!) I got lost on the left side (never ran there!, and it was totally different looking to the right then to the left...for now! I will work on it....notice how consistant my Mark was (which sucked and again my fault!)

I had a blast!!!!!!! Going back friday! FUN FUN FUN!!! I am so hyped I wont be able to sleep!

Well then I think you did great! Once you hit the track a couple of times and feel more confident on both sides you get what I call a track attitude and you'll be a pro

Debi, like Serg, said you don't suck at it. This being your first time at the track you did good i am proud of you and like the others have said more track time is what you need and you will be good at it.

honestly, i dont think that you could be consistantly doing something so wrong that your runnin those times. Unless your spinning the whole track, which i doubt. IMO its your car.
The first time i ever ran was a 15.6 and the car was running mildly ok, some time later, when the car was runnin like crap, i was more experienced, and i ran a 15.7 as my worst time ever.

Ill give you all my tips i use. From start to finish. #1 take out any and all junk in your car (spare included)#2 when you get to the track, let it sit for a long time (1-1/2, 2 hrs) so shes nice and cold. #3 If you have someone that can watch your stuff bring a cooler full of ice bags, a thin towel, a jack, and a small board. Put a bag of ice in the towel, and put it on the intake manifold. take the board put it on the jack, put another bag of ice on the board, and jack it up nice and tight on the transmission pan. It does help to slightly cool the trans fluid. and, if you want, take more towels freeze them the night b4, and put them in the cooler. When they got you staging again, right before you close the hood, take the towels and wrap the intake tube, cuz that thing gets amazingly hot, this helps to 1, cool it down and 2, keep it cool. #4 Traction control OFF, O/D OFF, put shifter in 1. #5, go arround the water in the burnout box. #6 do a very small burnout, cuz you will get SOME water on your tires no matter what. #7 Stage very shallow (when you get the second staging lights, you can move forward a little bit more, but you dont want to.) #8 when both are staged, Hold brake, (not too hard, but hard enough you dont inch forward) and rev to 2500rpm. #9 As SOON as the last yellow comes on, let go of the brake, and continue to roll into the throttle (immediately get to 1/2 throttle, and by 60 ft you should be 100%) #10 Keeping it floored, shift when your RPMs get to 5800 so that it shifts at 6000. #11. Keep it in second all the way through the traps, even if you hit the rev limiter, it will be at the moment you pass through the traps. #12 DO NOT, DO NOT, DO NOT use brakes at ANY point (unless your losing control and you need to scratch the run, but a 14/5 second car should not have any problems with that) oh, and obviously, use brakes when youve finished the run . #13, when your through the traps, pull the parachute and cut the fuel

Gl next time. if your car is runnin good, you should grab a mid to high 14 with the mods you have.

Good job and glad ya had fun.

What killed your times are those horrible 60 foot times. I know those cars don't launch for anything without some gears and a stall converter, but were the wheels spinning at all? Did you drive around or through the water box? Did you do burnouts before running?

Every tenth you lower the short time, you usually gain 2 tenths at the end.

You'll get the hang of it. Not bad for your first time.

Posted by: Jibit

Debi, you need to stop putting titles like that up! You send my mind straight to the gutter! Btw, next time you cum to town I'll teach you how to launch that thing

Way to go girl!
Practice, practice, practice.
A dash of patience and cat like reflexes!
Mr Wilson had really good tips to follow.
You have a really good baseline numbers to work with.

Posted by: scott9050

She won't get a mid 14 with it, but it should be low 15 second capable. I will find out soon enough as we are hosting Debi for Carlisle.

NYC, thanks for all your advice Hottie, you nailed it...., my launch, no matter how many times I practiced on the street and eleminator, there is nothing like looking at those lights. My launches were all over the chart! Is it weird that my speed stayed at 88mph?

Went around the water, no spinning, no burning...and thanks again. I will get to play some more tomorrow!! oh, yeah, the really bad one...the very first run of my life...a memorable one, it will always be something to laugh about, lolol!

I did too, I had a blast!!!! Flying down the straight away, coaxing & yellin at my engine! I hope I get that rush every time!

Gonna give it a go again tomorrow, I'll stop in and check the thread for any more golden tidbits

Thanks again hun, SMOOCHES,

Man thats a nice run and AT 98 MPH, WOW. I hope my 97 Mark will be able to do that. and Mr wilson, I don't its fair if you remove the spare tire, and the Ice trick cuz thats not testing out what your car really has. well anyways, good job debi, hope you have fun on friday

I'm taking it he is not stock now as his profile said 15.2 at 92.5. 98 would be faster mph than mine stock, and no way a gen II is doing that.

how is that not fair? thats like saying, well i dont have 4 people in the car either, so its not accurate to what the car realy has. Thats how you drag race. i tell ya what, when you get a bracket racer, put a trailer on it, pulling all your gas for the evening...then youll truely know what your capable of.

what i am saying is that you race with what the car came with.(from the showroom, not decreasing its weight)

you only like a factory drag? so...every modified car, no matter how slight, makes the race pointless. sounds kinda stupid to me. but w/e. i guess your not running the car you came with, since you changed the fuel filter.

COME ON DEB! we will all stand at the tree and blow at you to give you a better 60'! I bet you got low 15's tonight.

THANKS HOTTIES!

Last night was friggin AWESOME!!!!!!! I couldn't believe it! I told them it was the wrong slip and gave it back - he said no hun thats you, I am still doing a happy naked dance!!!!!

WHAAAAAAAAAAAWHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!! Thanks for all the advice HOTTIES!!!! I took the tire out, let the air down to 24.5 on the rears, went around the water, burned em a little cause the track was kinda wet and nailed the gas. Heheheh Im telling you, that was the sheeeeat!!!!!! I also lifted the hood to cool him off and tried not to move up the line by starting, I'd let the gap get big (but not big enough to where people would get mad behind me). Het gets HOT FAST! I am going to get up under that KnN and see exactely where the air is coming in.

I am still not consistent though, all night I was all over the place with my launches and 60's time, but I only red lighted once with -.175. I ate up a new mustang too - THAT WAS FUN!!!! but I think the driver was inexperienced, lolol, like my 11 runs have made me something lolol!!!

How the heck did I go from 93, 94 speeds to 104mph, and times from 17.2 (wednesday), to 13.412 last night! I've really got to work on consistency

HI Mark, it is great to see you! I have not talked to you in ages! New pics huh, your Lincolns are looking HOT as ever!

sorry i didnt check i thought it was 98 but oh well, and its still stock, well the performance part at least execpt for removing the air silencer

Posted by: scott9050

We will have to check that time Deb, unless your car is very heavily modded it's a timing error. Not tying to burst your bubble, just a fact. I had a clock tell me I ran a 11.XXX in my Mustang once.

Posted by: MsM8tress

Oh man no way! I asked the lady who gave me the slip and the guy who works there who was coaching me, they both said no. One thing that was different than all the runs was that someone blasted oil, so we sat for and hour while the cleaning guys went up and down the track...yes for a stinking hour! So the track was dry and clean. I felt it, I knew it was a good run, I knew the time would be my best yet.

I always believed you Debi

Posted by: scott9050

Trust me Debi, yours would beat the fastest stock Mark VIII time by a full 1.1 seconds and 5+ mph and it just is not happening. I can prove that point rather harshly in less than a month assuming Rich does not buy my car for his daughter It is simply just not possible for a near stock Mark VIII to run that time, it's never been done and never will be.
Like I said, I am not trying to be harsh but the track guys are wrong, and there are many possibilites to explain what happened, none involve the car actually being that fast in current form. If you don't believe me, post this time in the Mark VIII forum and see what kind of response it generates.

Posted by: pepperman

Scott, you've got to admit that if the conditions are just right anything can happen, why is it so hard to believe?

Actually no, some things are impossible and this is one of them.

Anything in life is possible, and this is one of those instances.

I'm on my 2nd Mark and I ran down the drag strip the first time 17 years ago. I don't claim to be a track expert by any means but I have run at 6 tracks in 3 states over the years. No, this is not possible with the mods listed. The 3.07 rear geared Mark is not able to run those times, it has simply never been done. Now if there are some considerable mods missing then it would be possible, but there are not. I am not slamming Debi, for God sake she is going to be a guest of ours in a few weeks, but there is a reason that this run was several seconds and 10 mph faster than her previous runs.

Pepper you are totally wrong in this instance.

Deb I really dont mean to burst your bubble, but that time is not accurate. If just the ET's had jumped from 16's like they were a few days ago down a bit and your trap speed had remained roughly the same, then I would be more apt to somewhat buy it. Your trap speeds increased by more than 10 mph!!! That is HUGE HUGE HUGE!!! in the 1/4 mile! I cannot even explain how HUGE of a difference that is! The trap speed difference was yet another indication that something was wrong with the timers on that run, or you got the wrong slip. I really hate to tell you, but that is not the right time based upon more than one piece of evidence.

I am not calling anyone a liar here, but I do KNOW that something is totally awry with that slip.

Posted by: pepperman

Scott i know you are not slamming Debi, i never thought you were. I still believe this can happen, sometimes things happen that can't be explained. I hope you can make it to the meet in July , it would be good to meet you.

Posted by: MsM8tress

Hey Scott, I'll be up there shortly you make sure you can get on that track cause I want you to teach me! If this is wrong, I want to know!

Have you checked out my time slip thread? http://www.lincolnvscadillac.com/sho...6&goto=newpost

Like I said I want to know if it is right or wrong and I want to learn from you either way

I know the kid raced it, I could tell by the way he was lying about the repairs, stupid lies for one, and the look on his face for another. Then I confirmed it when the pasgr tire actually spun me around just turning right, on dry road conditions! That dang rear is a friggin power house, I want to make him stay down to utilize it and not spin!

Looking forward to getting you behind the wheel SMOOCHES

It said you ran a 1.95 60 foot time, and that's not happening on street tires even with gears. I posted this in the Mark VIII forums as they are rather unbiased there. I am assuming you still have the stock gears? I am at the inlaws right now, I will call you tomorrow night when we get home and we can talk some more about it. Cecil is a good good track that is always properly prepped, if it ran it there it will run faster here.

FASTER! Yessss about the gears, well, I don't know like I said....ummm somewhere, the kid raced it, and the taillend of him KICKS like I have never felt.

Cool hun thanks, now I really can't wait!!!!

Debi, didn't you say your Mark had gotten less MPG than mine? That would be indicative of gears shorter than 3.27. Perhaps your boy is more a man than you think!

That might explain the unexplainable power house in the rear end I've been asking yall about!
